thanks everyone, I really need to take another picture. I've got it completely finished and tested it out, the little rat tried and tried to get through to no avail! hurrah!! The barrier is much nicer to look at now, I've finished the outer edge with some tubing I slit down the middle and wrapped it all around. It looks much nicer now and there aren't any sharp pieces to hurt my doogies. If I were to do it again, the only thing I would have changed would be to use pipe (conduit, copper pipe, whatev) instead of steel rod. Mines a bit flexible but stiff enough for the dogs.

I should sell these things, super easy to make, inexpensive (I maybe spent $15 on materials and 3-4 hours time), and can custom fit to specific vehicles.

This is the "Remington" model. Very sturdy feeling so far. No tears or rips in the headliner. I still use the luggage cover, but took it out for this pic. It fits perfect in the second slot on the sides.

I've got the same one in my wfies KK. I spread my sides out almost to the glass though. I had to cut the grateing in order to do so. Now there is no gaps for small dogs to get through even though I have a Wiemaraner(Gauge) and Chocolate Lab(Remington).
