Yeh, but I would still just run standard 33" tires. Much like Neatus' rig. Staying with IFS I was looking at the bare minimum height to run narrower 33x10.5 without going to a seriously expensive cradle drop suspension lift, and just do some creative fender trimming.

Keep in mind that SFA on an 06 would mean bypassing all the safety systems installed by the factory....... which is only important once you get into an accident..... then you'll really have to pay.

I took SFA off the table because
1 the liability is too great
2 it would never pass safety inspection (see #1)
3 don't think anyone will figure out how to integrate these systems (ABS, ESP, Anti-roll stuff)
4 don't have plans to make my ride a trail-only rig
5 if I did, I would have to invest in a tow rig
6 if I did, I would have to buy another car because I would not want to commute in the tow rig
7 can't get free JL gear anymore to install into the tow rig and the commuter car
8 my KJ is already a sexual tyrannosaurus

The KJ reminds me of a compact tank, so maybe a Triceratops.

I'm thinking Triceratops....Sport.....ya beat me to it.

If, after the steel D30 has been R&D'd, I'd get it. Peace of mind. It still requires driver skill over brute force driving when off-roading.

I tell you how to deal with all the "don't know how to drive systems"....take out the ABS fuse and it will/should shut down all the dummy systems. Thats what I did. I can't stand ESP, that thing has cause more close calls for me than I would like to have had.

Anyone can bypass the systems, no one can avoid getting sued when you have an accident with the bypass...... which was the point of my post.

If you live in a state with safety inspections, you will fail ...... which was the point of my post

If you rip everything out with an SFA install, plugging the fuse back in won't do much ...... which was the point of my post

You can have these systems...SFA doesn't mean you don't have to have a safe rig you just have to incorporate them and be willing to spend the coin to do it or be creative and do it with donor parts from something that has that system. ESP might be a bugger but ABS should be a breeze. My KJ didn't have any of those systems so I did not delete/bypass any of the OEM safety systems. It also can be a daily driver. Mine is and it sucks up the road bumps better than before and the XJ brakes actually stop the larger tires unlike my old ones that would not stop my 32's. The one thing I need to add that would make it safer on the highway are sway bars. Just haven't gotten to that. We have inspections here and it just passed.

Oh and if you want to keep IFS and are willing to do a cradle drop and fit bigger tires than this steel dif is for you. SFA is just way cooler :goink:

Not in Texas - as long as you have windshield wipers you're good (you don't even have to have a windshield)

(I'll still keep the IFS and get a steel housing)

A vehicle that once had abs and now does not cannot be deemed unsafe. That would not make it a liability as long as the braking system that is in place is as reliable as the braking system that has been removed. If abs were an industry standard such as air bags that are not an option you may have a potential problem.

Removing ABS does not make it apriori unsafe - however if you have an accident and the other guy can find an 'expert' that says your modification caused or contributed to the accident - you could lose a lawsuit. (and if there's enough money involved there will be an 'expert')

You get into an accident and you by-passed these systems, your insurance company is going to run for the hills.

Well than being you are driving the only suv to rollover during testing, causing them to lower it 1" after the first year ya better hope you never roll it over on someone. Then they could say it's because it was modified and your insurance company is going to run away and the walls will come crashing down. Better pull out your lift. Anything that is an option can be removed at will. Kinda curious what TJKJ is going to say... I'm thinking we had this discussion about the aftermarket bumpers. Have you been sued alot?

That rollover was a freak accident and could not be reproduced, but Jeep lowered the KJ anyways.

You'd be surprised how many insurance companies are denying coverage on lifted Jeeps, and yes they can pull the plug after the fact also if you did not disclose the mods before hand and they approved of them(most of the time for a hefty added cost). If you originally had ABS(and ESP) you are most likely getting the discount for those items, not telling the insurance company that you disabled them is fraud and they will drop you in a heart beat(and not look back) and leave you to the other guy's insurance company wolves(AKA lawyers) if you get caught.

Let's face it... most of what we do illegal.... HOW illegal is a moot point...

-lift it above the maximum legal headlight/bumper height and kill a pedestrian in a low speed impact- your fault
-kill someone when your stinger bumper goes through their side window in a low speed wreck- your fault
-eliminate safety systems and kill someone in a wreck those safety systems were designed to prevent- your fault
-your tires stick way out and you fling a rock and kill someone- your fault
-remove rear swaybar and roll for any reason- your fault
-have a big crack in your windshield and run over someones kid- your fault
(these are just examples... they vary state by state... don't get hung up on the details)

The only legal danger I can see with an SFA is that it might increase the likelihood that lawyers/insurance would investigate further....

Well, I have some actual news to report on this steel diff replacement!!!!! Marlin is about 1 week away from being able to send me his beta unit!!!!! He is in the process (as we sit here and type) of installing one into a gas KJ at his shop and should have about a weeks worth of testing on it before I get mine.
