i am still trying to find a 3.7l for the wife's liberty. all the ones i find are above 2k bucks for used motors. anyone got a lead to some place cheaper then that? also, what other year engine can go in place of this one with no mods? my buddy who worked for jeep said that i have to find one with steel valve covers and it has to be a certain year or two because of changes to the crank or something? i cannot remember exactly what he said but figured somebody on here would know what i have to find.

2002 liberty with auto and 3.7l. anyone got one for sale and wouldn't mind throwing it on a pallet and shipping, at my expense? i prefer something with less then 100k miles as ours kicked over at 111k and it must be in drop in condition. i don't mind swapping that bolts ons but i don't want to have to put heads on it or anything like that.

thanks guys. this will make the wife so happy because she will be able to rub it in my face that her liberty is taller then my cherokee and has all the off roading stuff while my little liberty only has a 5" lift. right now i get to pick on her because mine runs so all her mods aren't helping her at all.

I don't know exactly when the engines changed, but your friend is right. 2002's are different than later model years.

What happened to yours, if I may ask? Mine broke a valve spring at 100K and died at 196K when a valve seat fell out and tore up the engine.

Radiator cracked on the highway and the gauge never got the message. I heard it knocking but by that time it was to late. Bearings on the crank are gone and headgaskets and possibly heads.

I used to live on jadestone in corona. About 80 or so and then again in 88 or so. Went to elementary school at that school right in that neighborhood for 3rd grade, if I remeber right. Back when gumby was on everyday

Wow, bummer about the radiator. Lots of us have had them go bad, but usually it's just a crack with a slow leak.

I'll bet when you were in Corona the town basically stopped at Ontario. Now the citrus groves are pretty much all gone and there's houses all the way to the forest.

Good luck with your engine hunt. I went the expensive route. Got a reman with a 100,000-mile warranty.

Car-Parts search has the interchange built in
http://www.car-part.com/

okay - maybe it doesn't - it found a lot more 06 V6's than 02's

Sounds to me like the perfect time to think about doing a 4.7L V8 in place of the 3.7L. Would require more work, but blown engine is the perfect excuse. :-)

they are located in Grand Rapids MI. I picked a brand spanking new tranny for next to nothing.
