Ok so this past weekend I had a little mountain excursion. Do to a rockslide I had to detour around.......

Doing so forced me to driving through Frisco CO, when I got off the interstate I ended up in a group of 2(TWO) other CRDs, I have never been in such a group before. 3 CRD's driving in a row down the highway, I wound up next to both owners, neither one looked over or waved.

I have a CRD, I have Bio-diesel stickers all over it, and I make eye contact.....yet none of these people wanted anything to do with me.

I don't know about you guys, but I am always on the lookup for CRDs, I NEVER see them when I am driving my CRD, and I came across two of them at once here. Then these guys have to dash my hopes by neither of them acknowledging that I have a CRD, all I ask is for a wave....

*sob*

Maybe that was you I saw on walnut st on saturday...

I was in my CRD, stopped at a red light next to a CRD and I made the guy roll down his window to talk to him about it. He looked at me like I had horns. No enthusiasm.

Ya, that would not be me, plus you should know my CRD by now.

I came across another CRD on I-95 near St. Augustine.
I slowly passed him so he could hear my un-muffled diesel exhaust and see my CRD badge.
He was completly oblivious.

Most Jeep CJ owners and some Wrangler owners aknowledge each other with a friendly wave. Owners of "other" Jeeps are completly un-aware of this custom.

Of course, there are soo many other Liberties on the road, your hand might get tired.

They were yuppie snobs. The real question is... did you eat at Q4U in Frisco? Excellent BBQ?

There is a distinct possibility that those are "average" owners - not interested in modding, they fill it up with diesel and bring it to the dealer for service, and have never experienced the problems/ curiosity that drove many of us here. They have never heard of L.O.S.T., wouldn't know what the EGR is, much less why or how to deactivate it, nor would they know what the torque converter is except "Isn't that a part of the suspension?"

They are posers - gassers (patooie) driving diesels, and very unique diesels at that. What a disappointment.

Yeah the 4 CRD owners that frequent the shop I work at are yuppie starbucks drinking idiots. The manager was cashing out one after his alignment and the customer was talking about something about his suspension and told him to come talk to me,the customer was like "why?".Then the manager pointed to my SFA'd KJ and then the customer wanted to know why he would talk about his suspension in the Jeep with a guy with a Exterra, the manager looked at him crazy and stated it is a Jeep Liberty. What a idiot, couldn't even spot another KJ to save his life.

Sam, I was in that area the same weekend (leaving Breckenridge toward Denver), but didn't see any other CRDs (and I'm usually looking). Of course, if it was me, it may have been the three days of skiing & drinking to 3am that left me oblivious.

Sadly, it seems to many people a car is just a car (or a Jeep, etc), they have no passion for their vehicles.

Reminds me of a girl I was talking to at work, she was having car problems - I asked her what kind of car it was. Her reply - "uhh, a Honda, I think..." I asked what kind of Honda... she had no idea.

I probably know more about CRD's than most "average" CRD owners... and I don't even own one! ;)

I never wave or make eye contact with other drivers. Driving is a serious business.

Sometimes i think not knowing what is going on is better. Everytime i drive my CRD i wonder when the diff is going to explode again, when the CEL is going to come on
and tell me it doesn't know if i'm driving a manual or an automatic :banghead: or if something serious is going to go wrong with it and cost me a fortune to repair. Maybe it's better not to know about the EGR and FCV.

Compare the gassers forum with the CRD section and you'll see that the gassers hardly talk about the stuff we do. They talk about suspension mods etc and using the vehicle for what it was built and designed for. Our CRD section is just a whole host of complaints about this and that which causes paranoia. We hear a NOISE coming from the enginebay and then start wondering if it's injectors or glow plugs, bearings or i'm using the incorrect grade oil etc.

Personally, i have no issue with diesel motors and enjoy the torque but the dealerships are not experienced enough at this stage to service and repair them without just wanting to replace parts at exhorbitant prices.

My experance with seeing the few CRDs on the road that I have is they don't pay attention and wave or anything. the one light Khaki one I saw most recently had a woman driving and a guy riding shotgun with a kid in back. I suppose most women aren't that into their vehicles and maybe they were minding the kid and not the guy in the CRD next to them honking and waving.

Intrestingly I get more looks now that its warmer and windows are down from guys in other trucks when I pull up next to them in traffic. It seems they hear the clatter of my engine and look the Jeep over. On guy even says to me "your Jeep sounds funny, Is it a diesel or something? "

I have had guys and a woman with diesel trucks ask about it at the diesel pumps when they see I'm filling with diesel too. That is not super often but from time to time, people these days are in such a rush they seem to not notice a lot around them.

I think it's just that so many people don't enjoy driving, being on the road, or being outdoors. Personally, I love all 3 or else I wouldn't be on this forum.

Far too many people on my daily commute appear to be in a rotten mood, rushed, or on the verge of falling asleep at the wheel.

In the 7 months we've had our Jeeps, I have only seen one CRD in Illinois.

Yeah this section is a total bummer most of the time.

I think most people don't notice the CRD BECAUSE it is so rare. I've only seen one other one in the colorado area...but have seen it a few times. Its an older lady that drives it though...so no interest in mine. lol I take that back, There was another I saw parked for sale in a field facing the highway for about a week. Thats It though.

I do get alot more attention with the Diesel badges on my hood now though. And now that I finally got the GDE tune, I expect to have more people notice because it sounds more like a true diesel. I usually notice other CRD's, and if I don't, hopefully they will flag ME down. lol. :D

I live only a few hundred miles away from Toledo, and yet I've only seen a handful of CRDs around in the past 5 years. They aren't super rare....but they are rare.

Just the other day there were two guys in a toyota pickup behind me and in my mirrors I could see them sticking their heads out the window trying to read the back of my Jeep. I could tell they were curious about it...but they couldn't get around traffic to catch up with me. Sometimes these diesel Jeeps still intrigue people.

The most classic though was when I had a 2,200 lb. flatbed car hauler hooked up to the CRD with my buddy's modified Tacoma 4x4 loaded on and we pulled into a Flying J truckstop on the KY/TN state line for fuel. As I eased into the line for the big diesel pumps to fill up...people started coming out of the store to see what was going on. One guy even came over and started asking me how I like the Mercedes Benz diesel. :ROTFL: Keep in mind the WK CRD wasn't out yet. I tried to explain to him that I didn't have a Benz. He tried to argue with me and I nearly popped the hood...but figured he wasn't worth it. Everybody else just stared as my little Jeep drug the 6,700 lb. load up to the diesel pumps. :SOMBRERO:
