I still wonder.
I just did a complete average mpg calculation from the time I purchased the vehicle used with 22,200 miles on it and now has 37,900 miles. That's 15,900 miles in 21 months for which I spent $1,849.78 cents for 594.3 gallons of fuel. The average overall was 26.4 mpg. You know the other information about around town and highway and off road from my previous post. We're running 225 8 ply tires with 60 psi air. However, that just changed from stock Goodyears last September so it can't have had a large effect on the overall average. I could check the mpg up to the tire change and since but I haven't done that yet.

If you look through the CRDs at Fuelly.com....you'll see that EVERYONE is averaging low 20s.

I seriously doubt that everyone has big AT or MT tires and mods like us. It's pretty obvious that 95% of the CRDs out there are getting the same mileage, and the other 5% are driven by folks who don't know how to calculate MPGs.

After looking through all the CRDs on Fuelly, I started feeling a whole lot better about my 21-22 MPG that the CRD is giving me right now. The best MPG I have ever been able to truly document in either of my CRDs is 26 MPG on the Interstate/highways with the cruise set, windows up, and A/C off. That's why when people start claiming 35 MPG I get really suspicious.

Not completely true... myself and ac5501 get high 20s, low 30s all the time. It's all about how you drive it. I keep my tire pressure up, don't gun it, coast to lights, etc. and can net around 28mpg when driving 75mph through the mountains. I've gotten as high as 35mpg, but that was driving 60mph, no AC, cruise, on flat terrain. Driving 70mph in similar conditions knocks me down to 30-31mpg.

I'm now experimenting with 100% biodiesel, to see how much of an mpg hit I get

My best documented mileage was a recent trip where I drove 80mph the whole way(gps verified), doing so over flat land netted me 24mpg.

Is it really hard to believe that if you dropped the speed down 10mph it would increase into the upper 20's?

My best MPG I got was on a trip from LA to san francisco, driving 60mph, I got 36mpg. Problem is, I would go insane driving 60mph anywhere for 1000 miles.
