Hello! I have had a clicking noise when in 4x4 low and when trying to turn sharpish it makes a louder snapping sound. I took it to the garage and they said my boot was busted, dirt had got into the area and now I needed a front drive shaft. I have looked for one with no luck on junk yard sites. Thoughts? I also was wondering about the "sleeve" that you guys talk about putting around something to strengthen it...whats that and is that something I should do while getting this fixed? Can anyone help me understand that? Thanks a lot!!

Tracy

Easy fix. You can even use the Jeep midway through the fix.

The front shaft is held in by 6 bolts on each end and can be removed without touching any other system on the Jeep. We didn't even have to jack up the Jeep when we did ours.

Unbolt the shaft. (We moved the Jeep at little in order to access all the bolts,)
Dislodge the rear first and move it up and to the drivers side so that it is beside its mounting flange.
Dislodge the front
Slide past the exhaust to remove

Jeep is drivable at this point.
Have rebuilt at reputable drive line shop.

Reverse to install.

Thanks Aaron! I really don't plan to do the swap out myself, I don't have many tools nor a lift or anything. I am having a shop do it for me. I just need to find one. Also am wondering about putting a ring around the diff. to strenghten it? Thanks for all your help! Tracy

Come on Tracy, this is a good beginner project. All you need is a cheap metric tool kit. This repair can cost you less than $250. Think of the Jeep fun you can have with the money saved. I'm sure there is someone in your area that can lend a hand if needed.
