Is channel 4 what we will be using? I want to tune my antenna to whatever channel you want to use.

Do what about tunning your antenna??

An antenna is only really good for one particular frequency. It's a harmonic thing. If a CB antenna is "in tune" with channel 40 it will not be as good on the lower channels, like channel 1. There are different ways to tune antennas. Usually by changing the length. You need an SWR (Standing Wave Ratio) meter to tune the antenna. Some antennas have adjustment rings that you can use to tune it. When an antenna grossly out of tune with the frequency that you are transmitting on it can actually burn out the final transistors of the radio. When it is just a little out of tune it can greatly reduce the wattage output of your system. Sooo... it is best to tune your antenna for the frequency that you intend on using so that you transmitter will be putting out at peak wattage.

Most people use Ch.4 when wheeling. Has to do with 4X4. My radio has a built in SWR meter so I won't be needing one. The antenna would be good though...thanks! There are a number of ways to tune an antenna. What you do is determined by what the SWR is on Ch.40 and Ch.1 Normally today's antennas are set pretty close from the factory.

The best channels to use are either below Ch.1 or above Ch.40! A lot less traffic. Best would be above 40 on LSB.

We should add regional sections so folks from these areas can find posts like this easier.

I agree. And with 140 responses, seems like this was a good place to post it.

Terry's site, site 67, is where we will meet up, 10am.

Everyone have front and rear tow points?
One tow point MINIMUM.
But front and rear is much much preferred.

And JL, just chill out. Florida section is very very slow.
Never would have gotten this much traffic if it we're there.
