Eddy, if you had the dealership do the work, it should have a 12 month 12,000 mile warranty on it....

I had it done at the lift place to save Marlin $100 as they dealership was that much more!

Oh and I am in the front 5" on my driver side and 5.25" on my passenger side right now.

No looks like the first or second fold. Close to where the rip was from the old fork design. Maybe it flex'd so much it it something and ripped? I don't know but will be cleaning it up this weekend and checking out what happened. The clamp area looks good, although not as nice of the factory clamp.

Hmmm... well that sucks :? :? were the new forks installed before the boot was fixed? Also, it isn't unheard of people nicking the boot when R&Iing a lift...

The old forks came off, the CV boot replaced and the new forks put on. Then had the new tires and alignment done. The alignment slightly helps the angle of the CV's. I drove around for a week or two with no issues. I then went offroading and drove thru 18" of water, flex'd over lots of rocks and all looked good as far as i can remember before we drove back. My dad was compairing the driver side versus the passenger side as the driver side makes clunking noises. I helped him look at a few of the inside parts. I'm sure there was no grease as I saw the day after I got home. Maybe the highway speeds pushed the grease out and it did ripp on the trail. This is what most likely happened. I'll check into more this weekend and see where it busted open.

Well this was a great thread to read, I hope you guys are still scanning this!

I got an '08 coming to the shop from Colorado as we speak, and I am starting my list!

So, I was first thinking of going to the JBA lift but the sticker shock really has gotten me. Also, in talking to the guys at the shop who know their Liberty's they suggested getting a spacer lift, and for the price if needed I can still buy shocks and springs, and STILL be cheaper than the JBA. SO I was looking at the Daystar, but I didnt see that one mentioned in this thread? any reasons why you guys are only on the RK? (besides the thread title of course?). Just curious before I order.

Some other mods I am getting:

front Mopar Brush guard with PIAA 510's (copying MTnluvr)
maybe painting the hood flat black
tires
skid plates
cages on the tail lights

any other suggestions?

unless youre hurting for new tires soon, i would purchase skids and front and rear tow points first. then lift, tires and the rest of your mods list youve got there. in my opinion, all the spacer lifts are same. with the RK though, the install is alot easier in the front. its recommend to purchase extended bumpstops for the front. the rear is like every other spacer lift and requires extended rear shocks. unless things have changed recently RK sends their lift with 8.8 grade hardware and it needs to be replaced with 10.9. you can pick this up at any local ACE hardware or similar stores. another problem is contact with the spring and the upper control arm. it only does it on hard bumps or if youre going over speed bumps to fast. ive heard of other lifts doing it to and so far i havent heard of any major issues coming from it. it does it on some peoples but not everybodies. if youre concerned you can purchase JBAs upper control arms.

If you want a lift that will perform it is going to be JBA's if you want a lift just for a lift then a spacer lift or RK will do, but that is not to say that people with spacers and RK don't get out on the trails and do fine. The idea a true lift is to give better articulation / travel so that the wheel stay on the ground more. The ride is great with JBA better than stock and the 265/75r16 fit but do rub on the wheelwell even after cutting out some spots and on full left or right turns the wheel rubs the sway bar. Wheel spacers will push the wheel out too far that it will start to hit the pinch weld on the outside of the wheelwell and I don't want to fold it over. The stock skid plates if you have them work great!

Ive been running the Daystar for about 10K Miles now with a total of 31K on the KK and it rides like a TANK. Sadly my friends JK Unlimited rides a million times better on road even with his SFA. I didnt listen to others who told me not to get a Spacer lift because the spacers price was so good looking and now im paying for it. If i could go back i would have just saved my money for a true JBA lift which is what im doing now so i can get rid of this junk spacers.

Has anyone heard anything good/bad/indifferent about the Rocky Road Rock Father?

I know they have two, the deluxe, which you are in the territory of the JBA. However they have the standard Rock Father with the old man emu springs. In my estimation this should help a little to address the ride quality, (its kind of like a a half JBA full SUS lift), Im definitely taking in what you guys have to say, but I am just buying the jeep and having to add whatever I am doing to it to the price tag. So, having to budget it a bit!

I can tell ya this much about the RKlift Nick:
1. At least here in Ga., where im from, ive NEVER had any issues at either MY dealership or the closer one thats right down the road when it came to warranty or service work. Unless a rear coil/front strut/CV axle/steering link problem arose, i dont think anyone will bother ya. And from experience i dont think any of the previously listed problems would arise (at least I never had any of them and beleive me, i dogged that kit pretty hard)
2. i had my RK lift on for about 18K miles and i thought it was pretty darn good for the price. With the whole front coil contact(which had no adverse effects aside sounding bad and leaving a scratch or two on the coil) and the 8.8 grade bolts that i was sent set aside, i thought it was a decent lift

(Big Sigh) So Dirtykk, I took a BIG gamble and ordered the Rock Father. To get a lift kit with OME springs, and rear shocks for under $500 is hard to pass up! So I called them and I was told it was on back order and it should ship in 2-2 1/2 weeks, but that didnt seem too concrete. So, well... we will see... If I ever get it, it should be a great quality kit!

hopefully youre happy with it. you need to buy front bumpstops to keep from compressing the front springs too much. you will run a higher risk of blowing them quickly. let us know how it goes for ya.

now correct me if im wrong. the daystar lift uses a spacer to push the spring down thus extending the front strut causing it to wear quicker. this also allows the front springs to fully compress wearing those out quicker. versus the rk lift which simply extends the clevis not messing with any adjustment/length of the the strut or putting more stress on the spring thus wearing it out quicker. so with a set of bumpstops the rk lift shouldnt really wear the strut or spring out any quicker than stock? i could be completely wrong but it made sence in my lil head :ROTFL:

I recently installed the RK lift with Load range E Goodyear Duratracs and Bilstein rear shocks. I am very pleased with the results finding the ride to be remarkably smooth. I used the hardware that came with the lift kit. I keep reading on here that the 8.8 bolts should be replaced with 10.8 grade. Are there any documented failures as a result of use of the 8.8 grade included hardware? I would think, especially with the early mix up of incorrect hardware and subsequent recall, and obvious liability risk, that RK would not take any chances with inadequate hardware, especially considering the cost difference would be minimal and not make or break their ability to sell their product. I find alot of good information on this forum, most saving the rest of us time, money and disappointment based on other's personal experiences. I just haven't found where anyone has experienced any sort of failure related to the supplied hardware.

Im not going out on the hardcore trails everyday, but for my job i have to go down old log roads and snowmobile trails that have long been forgotten and i gotta say i still love my RK. Some of those are pretty darn bad but the RK has held its own. My only comlaint is the occasionall squeeking noise win i hit a speed bump.

Recalls on cars are addressed and corrected by their manufacturers all the time and people continue buying their cars. There are recalls on Jeeps, like all the rest, should that say it all about Jeeps? As long as the defect/cause for recall is recognized and corrected, and not knowingly swept under the rug until enough injuries and deaths occur to force the manufacturer to deal with it (shame on Toyota), I think the product and company remains in good standing. I came to the same conclusion that spacer lifts are harder on the struts and springs, will wear out the struts and springs faster, and cause a harsher ride. That is why I went with the Rock Krawler. I think it is the best compromise available for those who may not be able to or want to spend the money on the higher dollar stuff. I say this agreeing that JBA type lifts are the best that money can buy. I ask again, has there been a failure with the current/post recall hardware?

Buy Detroit!!!
