Driving to work today I noticed that my fog lamps are no longer working. The dash indicator shows that they are on, but they are not. I find it unusual that both lights would have suddenly burned out at 70,000 miles/5 years with little use. Any thoughts on causes / solutions?

I have only taken a cursory look at them. I am thinking it is something other than the bulbs since they both went out at the same time?

the status light will come on inside regardless of if the harness is even hooked up

if you've got the same harness that I do, it's not the front harness main connector or the turn signals wouldn't work

fuse maybe?

When was the last time you knew they were BOTH working?

Id start with checking the bulbs.. Check to see if the lights are getting 12 volts. Check the fuse..
