I have an 05 sport. All stock, the dealer just did a ton of work on it because I just bought it. EGR, flow valve, boost sensor, and fuel filter all new. Finally seems to run good. I drive a ton of highway miles 35,000+ a year and will very occasionally tow my atv and maybe another one so about 2500 lbs tops. What should I modify? What can I do to keep it running great? Where is the MAP sensor? Can anyone recommend a good diesel fuel additive? Best oil to run? Best oil filter? Open to any ideas but I don't off road with it. I have an atv for that. I just want to keep it running great. How hard is a provent to do? Is the GDE ecco tune worth the money? Thanks for the advise in advance.

Welcome,

I am doing the Hot GDE tune as soon as I get mine running again. I broke something, cannot figure it out yet. My tranny pump and torque converter(t/c) have been replaced. This diesel can do some real torque damage. Read up on what you have.
You might need a torque converter and a transmission pump if that has not been done already. Or do the GDE Eco tune.

The synthetic oil vapors from the engine tend to clog up the Manifold Air Pressure (MAP) sensor. Plan on a regular cleaning or some sort of Elephant Hose Mod (EHM) or Provent to collect the oil condensate drip. My single best fuel mileage booster.
Check on the Board Index for CRD Tech Only all you seek is there.

If you like performance a fuel pump can help. I added an in tank cummings fuel pump.

My springs went flat about 20k miles. Old Man Emu (OME) springs but the 3.9" lift is a little too high for me. I am an on roader but roads eat cars here in Maine.

Good luck.

Also, a good trick is to just check peoples signature lines for the mods they have made.

You may have a hard time finding parts for a cummings, but a Cummins (no G) are pretty common.

Lots and lots of research, well worth it as it could save you money in the long run however be careful what you read and decide to do as it could also cost you expensive visits to the dealer to rectify it if you bugger it up

The correct answer is read and research the knowledge on this forum, the members are happy to help out a newbie to the group. STAY AWAY FROM THE DEALERS however. They are likely to know LESS about the CRD than you do. There are countless members on here that will echo that statement with their own experiences, and a precious few dealers that actually DO know something.

If you drive into the dealer and hear someone say "Theres something wrong with your engine!" "no, it's a diesel" "Jeep sold those with a diesel?"

RUN.

Do the ORM mod and then decide between GDE tunes (ECO or HOT) or SEGR kit to neuter the EGR valve. Provent to keep oil out of the intake. OME lift if you want it lifted.

There is 'newb mods and FAQ' folder that's very helpful. Clean the boost pressure/MAP sensor using the tutorial and pics. GDE Eco tune is worth every penny. If/when I ever upgrade my torque converter, I'll go with a Hot tune.

Try the search function and spend time reading existing threads.

You could run while you still can. LOL Its been one thing after another for me. I like her but she's a headache. I just figured out that my thermostat is bad (100.00) and I have a bad pulley somewhere (if its the tensioner its going to be 150.00, if its the idler 81.00 and if the alternator that I bought is bad thats going to be another 200.00). Its hard to figure out which one is the problem as they are all in there jammed together. Better buy some socket wrenches.

I went with the Eco tune and it is a nice improvement I skipped the EHM, too much smoke)

Mods in order of importance (1 being most important)

1. Provent to filter blowby oil in the intake.
2. Lift pump. Either in tank or external. I installed a Kennedy lift pump (4psi) because i didn't want to drop my fuel tank.
3. Torque converter upgrade and/or transmission pump upgrade. A must if you tow or get a tune on your engine.

Wish list:
1. GDE eco tune. Great for stock torque converter with a noticeable boost of power and slight economy improvement which is often negated by addictive application of right foot pressure on the go-pedal.

2. Lift kit

3. Hot tune with aftermarket Suncost or Euro torque convertor
4. Upgraded turbo

Probably the alternator pulley. It looks simple but it's a vibration dampener and when it goes bad, makes everything jump around.
