Recently I have been experience the following trouble with my 02' liberty ltd.
When at a complete stop foot on the brake 10-30 seconds my jeep lurches foward as if I were hit from behind. The dealer thinks I'm crazy because it never happens when the test drive. This is true it has no set pattern as to when it happens. I have seen articles that refer to the slip yoke on the transfer case/ drive shaft. but these don't specify the 02' model year .

Can anyone shed some light on this issue?

ps.

No codes show up in the computer. Tuneup has been done and so has the trans fluid

Welcome to the forum! Here's the TSB on that issue. Show it to your dealer and you should be set. If you have issues in the future you can check the TSB and Warranty forum a little further down the page. It might just have been covered already.

Downshifting into 1st makes my 02 KJ lurch, as does jabbing at the steering wheel as I'm pulling into a parking spot. I've noticed that when I crank the wheel when stopped the power steering demand seems to require the KJ to kick up the idle speed. I'm used to it, the first few times surprised me though!

Thats just the tranny downshifting into 1st. Try putting it into 1st right when you stop and see if it does it.

this has never been an issue. why would it just start to do this? I have just had the tranmission serviced 2 weeks ago and the problem has not gone away.

The TSB posted above updates the info the computer uses to control the transmission. Computers are flaky like that. I'd get the update before worrying about what else it could be. Very common issue with the older KJs (mine included).

I insisted they check it as well as the slipyoke. I think what is goign to happen is that they will find nothing wrong and charge me 94 dollars
