Just my thoughts, typically, a bad compressor clutch will cause a loud screeching noise, that would be caused by the clutch slipping against the pulley, which should go away once the a/c is turned off, a bearing will usually make more of a whine, and will do it ac on or off, unless its internal to the compressor (not the pulley), then it would go away as the a/c is off, I highly doubt its internal though. Is it possible that the idler pulley which is below the a/c compressor could be going bad??? It is very common. First things first tho, before buying parts from a diagnosis online, if you are able to remove the serpentine belt, do so, and turn every pulley by hand to feel for any rough spots in their bearings. wiggle the pulleys (all of them) up and down, side to side to check for bearing tightness. If any of them are rough when spinning by hand, or loose feeling when wiggling, chances are that pulley's bearing is about to go.

Do this and at least youll know if the pulley bearings are in good, quiet shape. Hope this helps.
