Just wanted to pose the question.

We have had had the KJ for about 3 months now and it's awesome. We love it. But I was wondering what everyone is using for front pad's?

The reason I ask is that the brakes were serviced before we purchased and it stops great. However the current pad's produce a ton of break dust. The front rims are literally black within 2-3 weeks. I've never had a brake dust problem like this on any vehicle that I've previously owned.

I have no idea the MFG of the current pad that's on their now. Just wondering if this is a common problem or should I consider changing to a ceramic based pad.

Ive had my 06 KJ for about a month and a half, and it produces a ton of brake dust as well. It has whatever the previous owner put on it. In the past Ive had really good luck with ceramics. But ive noticed ceramics typically don't have the lifespan of a semi-metallic pad. but ceramics dissapate heat better, which equals better stopping, in my experience, ceramics also produce a much cleaner lighter dust than semi metallics. So i believe its kinda a trade off. Ive never had experience with the more performance oriented pads. i.e EBC, Hawk. But everyone ive met with EBCs seem very satisfied. Ive also been satisfied in the past with the medium to high grade pads at the auto stores, particularly advance auto, Their compound seems a lot better than the $20 cheapies. Remember tho, the KJ is very heavy for its size, and relys heavily on the front brakes, so they will probably always produce more dust than wanted/expected. just my :2cents: Hope it helps.

I used NAPAs brake pads, no dust at all and stop great
plus the originals went over 98000 on the fronts and 136,000 on the rears
so hoping these do the same or better!!

Not sure what I have on mine, probably Mopar, but no dust, have almost 40k on them, and going strong...

This isn't just a KJ issue, this is a Chrysler wide issue. 9/10 Chrysler vehicles on the highway have front wheels that are black because of the excessive front end weight they all carry.

In my opinion the biggest reason for this is Chrysler's lack of willingness to use aluminum in their engine blocks and transmission cases :?

Use the NAPA ultra premium stuff. It's very high quality. It's not cheap made-in-China junk. I'd suggst the same for your rotors as well if you ever need to replace them.

Another one for NAPA, I used the middle of the line pads and new rotors from them for the rear about a month ago and like them a lot so far!!

I used the Ultra Premium NAPA pads.. I changed them myself, (super easy if anyone is thinking about doing it themselves) so I figured I'd spend the extra money I saved and get the best.. I had about 55k on my original pads from the factory.. I was still stopping decently, didn't really test them out, lol.. all four were pretty much worn exactly the same, strange I know, but I do drive pretty easy on my brakes.. I also have a 6spd.
I also had no dust on my original pads, or these new ones.. My neighbor has an '06 Limited and his front rims are gross, lol. But he also drives like a maniac.
