2008 Jeep Liberty MANUAL Trans

I have 51K miles on the beast.

I have never changed any trans or diff fluids, stock tires, stock brakes.

I know I need tires.

What else should I get checked out? Brakes? Diff, trans, PCV?

Can't seem to find a good answer.

Your owners manual has a good breakdown of what maintenance needs to be done at specific mileages

@50K you should do:

1. Front and Rear diff
2. Trans
3. T-case
4. Plugs
5. PCV
6. Air filter

I don't know how hard you are on brakes, but you may need rear pads.

Dealer cost..... Probably 300 to 500 after parts and labor. Doing it yourself, probably well under $175....

Digger while I have your attention . . . I was thinking of grabbing the General Grabber AT2's. I notice that the load rating is higher than the stockers. I love the price tag though. Are there any downsides to the heavier tire? I figure rougher ride, but not a huge deal for me.

Power and gas mileage will suffer, the effects are greater with the bigger size you go

X2 you will see some power loss and some MPG loss. You may enjoy the stiffer ride :P

Hmmm . . . I am sticking with the stock size . . . any idea how drastic the MPG loss would be?

Probably 2 to 3 MPG in the city and maybe 1 to 2 on the highway......

Thought I would throw in my 2 cents. I have had the Grabber AT2's for about 20k miles and they have great traction and have only dropped my mileage by maybe 2 mpg (I have stock size). However after 10k miles they started sounding more like mud tires than just AT tires. The ride wasn't really rougher though.

anything more aggressive (ie A/T M/T) looking is gonna weigh more so your gas mileage will suffer even if you keep the same as stock size. might try going to tirerack.com and entering in the tire size you want and comparing specs from other tires to see which ones dont weigh as much. also consider other things though and not just the weight, price or appearance. 70 miles a day, youre gonna want something with good wear ratings and comfortable road manners. maybe just invest in a scooter.

So far, I really love the BFG Long Trail T/A Tour's I put on mine. If you stay with with the 225's they are only a few pounds heavier and you shouldn't notice any loss in mpg or power. Currently, I'm running a 245/75r16 with my manual KK and can barely feel the difference in size vs power. I will tell you that the difference between a 45 lb tire (bfg 225/75r16 KM2) and a 34 lb tire(my current 245/75r16) clutch wise is HUGE!

Digger-

How are those with light off road use? I do drive on the beach on occasion. I imagine they would out perform stock . . . right?

Blocks of Ice cut into a "Wheel Shape" would outperform Stockers :ROTFL:

I haven't had them "off road" as suck yet. From the little driving I have done, they have preformed excellent. I have been down a few dirt road with them and they had excellent traction in the loose pack. Plus they love to coast! From what I was told, they offer better traction and performance than the Michelin LTX M/S at half the price. An I can confirm that statement since I have had a set of LTX M'/S's on the KK...

I ended up going with the General Grabber AT2. I told the tire guy (family friend) I wanted the LongTrail, and he said to just go with the GG AT2 . . . I am gonna give them a shot, and I should have pretty good data on how big of a hit the MPG is since I have tracked that since I bought my Jeep.

Now, do any of you guys know where I can get some black wheels? I really like the American Racing Assault, but I don't think they will fit without a lift. I want something primarily black.

Cragar soft 8's are very popular and can be found online pretty cheap.
