The Rusty's coil lift has quite the following here as well. I'd say that while it might be possible to make your own frankenlift, I can't see it being less expensive, expecially when you consider that All J Products puts the front struts together for you. The only way I would think it would be cheaper is if you lived in the same town as one of the big off-road companies that supply the parts so you don't have to pay shipping. My (wonderful) Frankenlift cost me almost $70 to ship from Cali to Florida. "I wish they all could be California KJs..."

You folks are wonderul. I think I am finally grasping all of this....but here come more questions...

I have been searching the net constantly for about a week (basically since I ordered my trailmaster springs without proper knowlege   ) From everything I have read Frankenlift is the way to go as it was designed specifically for KJ owners needs. Here is my delima though...I only go mudding and light trail riding in my KJ (for serious scrapping we have a FSJ that we don't care if it gets crunched) I want the best bang for the buck, but my main concern is getting a lift that is not going to cause mechanical problems in the long run. My trailmaster springs were 240.00 including shipping, but I have to buy shocks and struts..another $300 (from Rustys). Then I have to have it put on because I don't have a spring compressor....another 225! THEN, I have to spend another 550-900 for mud tires for my stock rims. All just to go scrapping a few times a year. LOL! The only advantage, if you can call it that, of the trailmaster set up is that I can buy it in bits and pieces so the upfront cost is less. And if it was a good kit, I wouldn't mind, but I have a feeling that I won't be happy with the ride. I know I am rambling a bit... sorry. My next question is for the type of mudding, trails I am going to do, it the Frankenlift worth it? Are Frankenlifts overkill for the type of driving I am going to do? If I stick with the trailmaster and go with Rancho shocks and struts (I was told that Rancho struts are the same length as stock) will I hurt my KJ if I hit bumps hard? Above all, my KJ has to be SAFE as I drive my children around in it!

I emailed Heather the other day to ask about Spring Rates, and she email ARBSeth (lol i could have just emailed seth). Anyway, here it is:

OME926 Free Height = 392mm and 65.7 n/mm

OME927 Free Height = 394mm and 70 n/mm

Now if someone could convert that to Imperical measurements, I would be happier.

Good job!! What are you going to do with the other springs you ordered? Remember, it takes the franken lift awhile to settle, your cv angles may be alittle steep for a couple of days. Some big dips and bumps usually fix them.

I called the company this morning and they are pretty sure my other lift has not shipped yet and they are willing to cancel it. If it has shipped, then I can simply pay return postage (only 36.00)and they will refund with no restock fee. They were very nice about the whole thing. I can't wait to try my Frankenlift. Since it will take roughly a month to arrive, I now have time to research mud tire options  ....care to add your two cents in? See my post in the tires forum.

See and I don 't even know what the angles are supposed to be, so I probably wouldn't know the difference! heehee. I have seen the pictures, but I still don't understand about the whole angle thing. That is why I am getting a Frankenlift, they know all about that stuff!

End of March? Yikes! I wonder when mine will show up? I noticed on the web site it said "in stock on 2/23", I guess they really do go fast!

And holy hijacked thread!

Wow, I guess even the Med. OME front springs @ 375lbs are much stiffer then the Rusty's springs which he lists @ 310lbs on his site. Or is that not a great difference in springs?

Well, there are many people that know more about tires than I do. I know everyone loves the Bridgestone Revos, its a good all around tire. The Goodyear MTR's are a favorite for rock. Heres a good site with alot of good ratings on tires, look it over.

Here are some threads about the franken lift settling.

This may scare you at first.

Man those spring rates look stiff to me. I'm an XJ driver, and my Heavy Duty front coils are only rated at like 210lbs.
My Z-28's super stiff street race springs are 500lbs.

I think you will be very content with your choice of lifts. It seems as though All J sells those quite a few frankenlifts, I really wonder what percentage of their business is just the frankenlifts???

It has to do with the IFS setup in the front. You are applying a moment or using a lever to compress the springs so they need to be stiff. It is the way the suspension is set up. The spring attaches in the middle of the A-arm. Then you have one end mounted to the frame and the other attached to the wheel. So the a-arm acts as a lever. The wheel get a mechanical advantage of approximately 1.5-2 times when compressing the springs. Just like using a longer wrench to free a bolt.

Not to mention that a stock KJ weighs in at around 500 more pounds than an XJ. For a "cute ute" she's a porker! So with the levering action of the front suspension and the added weight you need the higher spring rates.

I know that Jeep puts all sorts of springs in the Lib but what is the spring rate on the average? Anyone know, just wondering what stock is compared to Rustys at 310 , OMEs at 375 and 400.

got my mind to wondering

If memory serves...someone asked Rusty that question when his lift first came out and he said his were the same as stock.
