Thanks for the diagram. I wonder then, would it be possible to safely mount a full length rack on a KK without mounting points towards the front of the vehicle?

I dunno, but here's a thread about one someone made for a KJ.

If you included a longitudinal (e.g. lengthwise) structural element that was properly sized, the rack could cantilever out to the front without any support.

Good find MtnLuvr!

I agree with Jeger, something like this would work, with a brace on the red line.

I see he also has a brush guard on the front to keep branches from getting caught between the rack and roof.
It is a Nice clean design. Add some cross bars on the main frame and a second level. Then you would have a built in basket.
Who is going to fab one up now? I want to see it as a reality on a KK!

If you had time and a welder, that design would look really nice on a KK

If anyone knows anyone in Illinois that does custom fabrications, please let me know. I saw that Boiler in Indiana is making racks for the KJs, but I haven't heard much about his progress with the KKs.

Right now I'm wrapping up my first KJ rack. Will follow with a couple options for KJ, plus probably one custom. After that I'll be hot on the KK. Probably trying to start design by the first of June.

Definitely one of the coolest roof racks with lights I've seen yet. My liberty didn't even come with roof rails. There's just some plastic along the top :'(.

I have RRO's side rails on my 09 KK with the skyslider. I know RRO gets slammed a lot here, but I have no complaints. Looking at the mounting hardware that exists on the kk, it seems reasonable to me to put a full length rack on a KK, BUT the load on the front would need to be very limited. Like lights and the rack frame only. The threads on the mounting bolts are VERY fine. THe bolts themselves are not very substantial. My concern is that a heavy load would make the rack pivot on the front bolts and lift on the back either stripping the threads or breaking the bolts. My opinion only, but I've broken a lot of stuff. :D
