I did the in-tank lift pump/canister swap about a year ago. Last evening my wife and I were coming back from dinner and the fuel gauge was about 1 click from red but no fuel light was on. Fill up and it took 19.8 gallons. Kinda bothered me that it was lower than gauge reading indicated. Have any of you guys with this conversion noticed changes in you fuel gauge reading? In the truck from where the canister came, the fuel gauge comes off full sooner than it did with the stock canister (now in the libby).

GDE recalibrated the fuel gauge, so that may be part of it.

When you put in the Dodge Cummins pump did you use the wire thing the float hangs on from the original Libby assemblie :?: If not that's your problem. There's a slight difference in them :jester:

What he said. The float arm is a different length on the CRD. It just snaps in. The sensors are the same.
If you just glance at them, they appear to look the same.
(My wife tested mine and it had about 2 gallons left when the light came on).

That shows my fuel gauge before and after with taking the arm and float from the CRD and putting it on the cummins (along with everything else I did in the pictures).

No I didn't switch the float arms. Didn't realize they where different. Dang. So translate the different lengths to fuel gauge reading and actual fuel level.

Jeep: slightly less fuel than gauge reading.

Dodge: slightly more fuel that gauge reading.

Correct?

I hate that, especially since I just did this sway to someone else. But I not gonna drop both tanks again just for that.

When I installed the cummins fuel pump I bent the wire so it was like the original fuel level sensor.
Funny, it was one of the few things I got right.

Which way did you bend it?

Bent it up, I think.
The idea was to have the gauge show the fuel level lower than the fuel level really was.
Turns out it was just right.
Be sure to avoid what will hang the float up. I think I rotated the installation a bit.
There are old posts by GMCTD, he helped me a lot.
