Hello,

Does anyone know how to clear a sentry key so that it can be reprogrammed for a 2006 Jeep CRD? I have a good used sentry key cut to my lock, but my dealer said they couldn't reprogram the sentry part or key since it was already programmed... Is there a way to clear it? Leave the battery out so long or something? I have two good keys, but need this third. Any ideas?

If you have two programmed keys there are insturctions in the owners manual on how to program a key. Otherwise it's to the dealer we will go

Is a sentry key the one with or without the remote? Also I'm not posative but I think the car is programmed to the key

As I understand it, each key as a unique electronic signature and the Jeep will accept up to 4 of these codes. If you have only ever had the original two keys programmed then you should be able to add two mre. I think if you have had 4 of them programmed you might need to have the dealer clear the codes of lost keys.

EDIT: Hey, just read my manual as I wanted to add some keys too. Here is the story per the manual. You can program up to 8 keys but you can only program up to 4 remote/key combinations. So you could add 4 chipped keys and 4 remote keys on one vehicle. If you have a key that has been programmed to another vehicle it can not be reprogrammed to a new one, it is only good for the original vehicle.

So you need to figure out if the key you have has ever been programmed or if it needs to be programmed.

It has been programmed to another vehicle...That is why I want to know how to clear the sentry key... So I can program it to mine... There has to be a way.. I just don't know how and can't afford to buy a new key from the dealer $$$$...

I read my manual and it says that once a sentry key is programmed it can not be changed to another code, period....one shot deal.

Do you have at least two working keys now? I just bought two unprogrammed sentry keys (Not the one with the remote) for $34 including shipping online. They are blanks so I will need to get them cut when they get here but as long as I have two working keys I can program the new ones in the Jeep on my own without the dealer. By the way, I could have purchased cheaper ones that didn't say Jeep.

No there doesn't - if it's a One Time Programable chip - you'd have to pull the chip out and replace it....
