Hey guys, I replaced the tensioner today. Was going to change the belt to but got the wrong one from summit. Afterward when I started the jeep up it runs fine, except when the AC engages its starts the click. However it only clicks when at idle or when I first start to press the gas. After that it goes away. Engine and AC runs fine :?: :?: Anyone got a clue as to what it is?

TIA!

Why would it happen only when the AC kicks in. I get as close as I can to hear it and it sounds like its coming out of the AC compressor

It's the tensioner. While your looking at the tensioner have someone turn on the A/C(engine running) and you will see the tensioner arm start bouncing. It's the internal spring making the noise. The 2nd OEM tensioner the dealership installed started doing that same thing after about 5000 miles, replaced the tensioner with a Dayco one and the noise went away.

Yepp you can see it bounce some. Thanks. Sucks when you buy a new part and it fails before you can even use it. :banghead:

Yeah I now what you mean.Dayco and Gaterback tensioners are good and rather cheap.Stick with the serp belt from the dealership, they are worth the extra money and will get many more miles from the OEM EPDM serp belt then a aftermarket vinyl belts that crack fast.

I just threw away a Gaterback serp belt with less then 10k miles that was already cracking and severly worn, replaced with a OEM EPDM belt.

This always sucks. Before i bought my KJ i bought lowering springs struts and shocks for my jetta, the right front strut blew out in less than a thousand miles of normal driving. Its such a disappointment in manufacturers quality sometimes.

I replaced my OEM belt and tensioner for the first time after 110k+ miles with a Gatorback tensioner assembly (arm, mount and both pulleys purchased as one unit) and belt. Perhaps you need to use all the parts as a system. After I put it on, it ran just as smoothly as the day the Jeep was new. Now with about 2,000 miles on it, it's still purring beautifully.
