Has it ever been changed before? Some trany experts recommend a drain and fill at least every 30,000 miles.

And why people complain so much about there vehicles when they breakdown, lack of maintenance.

If you owned a house would you say "oh well" if you had a hole in your roof?

Yes and no....

There are plenty of people who get good service life out of their vehicles without feeding the dealer or Firestone/Goodyear/Etc... kitty with arbitrary mileage-based service intervals. The tech's always blame the owner if the intervals were not religiously followed, but have no answer when someone who does the maint. has the same issue... It is like the 86 yr old who dies of a heart attack and people say " if only he hadn't eaten fried foods all of his life..." :ROTFL:

Sir, your Liberty's window regulator failed because of lack of oil changes...

The hole in the roof example is an ignored repair, not a failure of service intervals. Apples/oranges.

Most dealers and chain repair shops use those intervals to force you in the door and then they try to pressure you into high-profit add-ons. I personally have never seen a national tire/alignment shop that didn't expect x amount of front end parts moved per x amount of alignments performed as part of the tech's performance review. I am not saying that they all do, just every one that I have ever had friends work for or had contact with.

Riptricket, you make me laugh. You’ve been on this forum long enough to know that maintenance, especially those concerning fluids and lubricates, are designed to lower friction and reduce wear. You also know that over time those lubricants start to breakdown and the additives within those lubricants are no longer effective. And you know that as lubricants break down, so does the level of protection they offer. Heat is what dramatically increases the wear on engine parts, transmission parts, differential parts, etc. You know that lubricants are the lifeblood of your vehicle and can not be ignored. And you should know that it’s nobody’s responsibility to tell you when to be responsible for something that you own. And lastly, you know that just because your vehicle has no known current mechanical problems doesn’t mean that there isn’t some degree of wear. Maintenance is something that you do to PREVENT. You knew all this and that is why you titled your thread, "I am sure I will get hate for this but..." But I'm proud that you have come forward and confessed your sins.

He has a 2005. The 42RLE was the only auto trany offered in that model year.

Come on Troy... Ya need a hug? I'm thinking 90% or more of the cars and trucks on the road have neglected trannys.

I've been curious about the whole maintenance schedule issue too and decided to do some research into it. I found the following page on the Jeep website. Just plug your vehicle's info in the upper left, apply the selections, then you can find all knds of info about your Jeep. When you select on the Required Maintenance Schedule under Service and Operating My Vehicle it will bring up a PDF. You have to dig to the second half of the file that comes up as the first half is all the warranty info.

No but if you heard how many times I here "oh well" from customers at work everyday then see then get towed back in a few weeks later for the same issue which now will cost 5-10 times more when they could have spent less then $100 back when when that part/fluid change was recommended, you would understand my point.

Well troy I have worked on CNC equipment for years and when you tell a company that If they don't change a motor it is going to ruin the motor and the amplifier and they say that Its still running. It is human nature either to not believe someone that something bad is going to happen or just not want to fix something that isn't broken.

I believe at this point Rip's "Oh Well" is one that falls into the category that he doesn't own a time machine to go back and fix the error in lack of tranny maint.

cut him a shred of slack, it's apparent he's attempting to do the maint. now

Hey, while you’re at it, install one of those PML transmission pans with the drain plug. The service tech recommended a drain and fill every 15,000 miles. He said you would be amazed how much difference it makes to keep fresh fluid in your transmission.
