I have a Magnaflow as well, very short time to install, 20 min I think it was from start to finish. The only issue is that it rubs on my trailer hitch, the same reason I got it for so cheap the previous owner had the saem issue.

Aeroturbine 2525 and no cat. Mileage on summer diesel (we get that about five months here) at fwy speeds 28 to 30, lots of other modifications. Prompt turbo response was the most impressive change I noticed.

All the exhausts are the same. I have the V6 MBRP, I posted the P/N in another thread, but don't recall it right now.

Deleted the cat & stock muffler and replaced with 2.5" pipe.

Pros:
low end torque, turbo spool, and pedal mashing performance are impressive. I would put the gains up there with the GDE hot flash. In other words, much more than I expected.

Cons:
LOUD. It's quiet at idle and reasonable on the freeway, but when I get on it - it sounds as if I left the back glass window open.
SMELL. I don't mind it though. It's what diesel trucks smell like and reminds me of my 2003 F250.

Question:
For those of you that have done what I did, except you tossed an aftermarket muffler in there... which AM Muffler did you go with, and what is your impression of the performance/sound? Do you recommend what you did? I'm considering a cheap/simple 2.5" muffler to quiet it down a little... but don't want to lose the craziness :)

Jack

I went with a Flowmaster 2.5" all-metal muffler from the local parts hut. About $80, and not bad on the noise reduction at all. It is a LITTLE louder than stock, but not bad. IIRC, it maintains the full flow and reduces the sound by redirection and reflection inside the muffler without creating backpressure. I like it.

I went with the Magnaflow 12226 2.5" muffler. Side In, center out, straight through.

currently i run a 3'' all the way back, no muffler or cat. I dont get any drone! i thought for sure i would but nope. I made mine out of some spare stainless 3'' i had lay'n around from another fabrication. Just got out my miller and tig'd it. very time consuming considering i had to prep the stainless to prevent contamination, run low heat so i wouldnt burn through. I dont have a pipe bender or anything like that but i had some time and i just cut a ton of angles and tacked them together, welded it up. it looks really cool and sounds ok. sounds like a 4 banger with a turbo to be honest. very raspy so to speak. I dont know what it would have cost if a shop would have done it. a bunch im sure. but b/c i had everything i considered if free.....

oh also, the fumes are hard on the eyes if you have to stand behind it for a while. they will burn for a while to be honest.

That's all i've got, no cat and a fairly large rear free flow side in and centre out, no resonance on the freeway, bit louder than stock but
much better breathing.

Glass packs have been discussed here a few years ago and the consences was they were worse then the original. Some including Web master Darby have replaced the muffler with a stright pipe and like the results.

Thanks Joe. That is good information to know. Looks like I'm putting the kabosh on that little idea, then...

...As opposed to a N/A Honda without a turbo? Cuz with the turbo, it isn't "naturally aspirated" anymore.

Or maybe you meant a N/A Honda with a NOS kit, since that is what they usually all have to have to do any go-fast performance... :goink:

here is the vid.

i think we all can agree that even with no traction this is a quick little crd, like most others with a hot tune.

That thing definitely looks quick.

I have the GDE Hot tune and now the straight pipe and I seriously can't keep the rear wheels from spinning. And I'm running some seriously wide rubber (275's on 20's). But, I pretty much sold on installing an aftermarket muffler. It sounds too "woofy" when I mash the go pedal.

I really wish I would have dyno'd it at stock, then GDE, then GDE + straight pipe. All I have to go on is "feel".
