We have a baby on the way and it would be great if I can hear from the KJ owners with baby seats.

I guess, from what I read, Chicco and Graco are the best ones out there. But they have so many different ones, it is madness trying to differentiate them and pick out the right/best one. Most Expensive doesn't always mean the best, sometimes it means stuff you don't need.

I will definitely go with one that has permanent base + bucket + Travel system so I can easily place the basket on top of the stroller if we go out some place and we need to walk.

If anyone has pictures of their infant/toddler seat setups, it would be greatly appreciated.

We thought about

or

Thanks!

Hey North East Stranger. How ya been?
Congrats on the baby. I am not sure if you remember the last Toys for Tots you came with us I had my 1 year old son with us. We have the Graco Snap and go style that we bought from toys r us. It was gerat. The base is locked down using the jeep ancrs and the bucket locks right into that and it also goes right into the stroller. It has a green and red window for when you lock it into place. Green means locked correctly and red mean try it again. LOL

Fits great in the back seat rear facing and when you face it foward. I had the seat setup behind the passangers side. My reason is I seen too many head on's and steering wheel going though drivers. I rather not have it go though me and into the baby!

Hey Brian,
You are so right, I remember the little fella from the last tour, and I should have asked you first!
I just came back from Buy Buy Baby, it is just crazy how many different ones they have. :) I have seen the snap N go before as well, they look great and seems very functional, but you would have to take the carrier apart whenever you fold it, since you can't really fold the carrier. Also when the kid grows, like 2 yrs you are stuck with this or you have to get another stroller.

I had a Graco convertible with the separate base. The seat would also lock into the stroller as well. Worked very well with the anchors and straps.

Honestly once the purchase is made, they all seem the same. Get something with a removable liner so you can wash it when needed.

Do yourself a favor. Once you buy it, take some time to figure out how to securely set the base in the car. Get it ready prior before the baby is born. Trying to figure it out, while your wife and baby are on the curb is not the time. :D

We just had our second one and I am rolling with the Graco SnugRide Infant Car Seat - Pippin. One base in the KJ and one in the Town & County.
Image

We have the Graco DuoGlider Stroller to go with it.
Image

I have the Safety 1st Alpha Omega Elite Convertible Car Seat - Remington for my 21 month old for the KJ. I have the previous version of this seat in the van.
Image

I also have the Jeep Liberty Limited Stroller. :D

So far we really like the Graco. Padding seems to be on the light side, but enough to be comfortable. She sleeps every time she gets in it. It is really nice having a stroller that the seat will snap into. The less you have to take them out of the seat when they are an infant, the easier your life will be. I have the double one, but they make them in the single version.

I like the Safety 1st Alpha Omega series seats for the convertibles. They are simple, well made and are usually pretty cheap. I'll be getting a couple more of those when the second is ready for a convertible. We didn't put the first into the convertible until she was ready to turn forward. At the time, we only had an Audi and my KJ. The convertibles turned backwards took up WAY more room than the infant seats do in those cars. You can position the passenger from seat to where it will accept the infant seat while an adult can still fit comfortably in it.

Be sure you are registered with Baby's R Us. They send you 20% off coupons all the time. Using those and catching them on sale or some thing brings the price down to a more reasonable level.

I hope that helps.

Thanks guys, please keep them coming, I agree that they all seem to be the same with just some slight differences among them.

no matter what you get just stop by your local fire station and have them check out the install.

they might have a car seat check on a saturday or any day you can stop, check your local fire house..

Boostedxt, I heard about that as well, my brother in law down lives in Nevada, to be exact in LV, and he said he got the fire department check out his seat and help make sure it was installed properly. I have NEVER heard anyone do that up here in New York City, I am afraid they will look at me like I am an alien if I ask them about it, but I will definitely do that if it is an option.

I read in the other jeep forum that some stores like BabysRus and BuyBuyBaby will let you take the seat to your car to try to see if it fits. Since there isn't much room in the back, I would take advantage of that to make sure that I get one that fits nicely.

Yeah, I took mine by the local fire station to make sure I put it in correctly. It is a pretty easy task with the LATCH system.

OH, I forgot to mention, these are awesome...

Thank goodness my kids are older now, they are much better at holding onto the roof rack.

I have the Jeep Liberty Limited stroller from Babies-R-Us...and it won't fit in the back of the KJ! Funny, huh? I have to turn it and set it on it's side so that I can close the rear door. Gosh, that cargo area is tiny on the KJ.

For seats...we have always used EvenFlo brand seats from Babies-R-Us because they get good ratings. The ones where you attach the base and the seat is detachable by a button are NICE when the baby is an infant. VERY handy when going to the store, etc. Once they start walking, we switched to the seat using the LATCH system. I have mine behind the driver's seat.

Don't these slip? I mean, surely leather is slippery as well, but this makes the vehicle's seat completely flat.

x4,895 I love those things and would never use a child seat without one. Having kids shouldn't mean you have to wreck your $900 leather seats.

It has a rubber bottom. It "sticks" to the leather. In my opinion, it is safer than if nothing was used. Once you put it down and strap the seat/base down good and tight, it doesn't go anywhere. Nice and thick too. Thicker that the others Babies R Us has.

No, it doesn't make the seat flat. It keeps the same pitch as the seat is without it. Just adds a protective barrier to the seat.

Does anyone find the back of the jeep way too bouncy for a baby? It may be a good thing but I find it too rough (from what I hear) I guess IFS really helps in the front and SRA causes complaints in the back.

My KJ with the OME coils and “P” rated tires rides like a Cadillac. 8) Now my Dodge Cummins is a different story......

I don't want to steer too far away from the topic, but what is the benefit of coil upgrades? Is it softer, I don't want to compromise stability just to get a bit softer ride, if I did, I would have gotten a Grand Cherokee :SOMBRERO:

OME comes in medium duty and heavy duty springs to accommodate for load. The OME springs and shocks are much better than your stock springs and shocks as far as durability, stability, ride performance, and ride comfort.
