Look at it as a maintenance upgrade. We know that shocks are something that need to be replaced overtime. And we also know that stock coils start to sag and lose their resiliency overtime. I road in a colleagues 2005 Jeep Liberty a few weeks ago. She only had 70,000 miles on the Jeep, but it road horrible. It was very stiff, on-road performance was poor, and I felt every bump in the road. In her case scenario, the upgrade to OME coils and shocks would make a noticeable difference. So if you’re planning to keep the KJ for the long haul, it would only make sense to replace the parts that break down overtime and improve ride quality. Plus, if you’re happy with the Jeep, then you are more likely to keep it.

The Graco Snugride is nice for infants because you can just pop it off the base and carry the baby in it. Really convenient when they're asleep. It works great rear-facing. Once we turned it around to front-facing, though, my daughter could never get comfortable in it. Any trip of more than 30 minutes turned into nonstop fussing. Went to the Britax Marathon at that point, which she loved right away. But back seat passengers hated the Britax. It has these levers on the side that will dig into the passengers' arms. Now we're on to a Graco booster seat, which is nice for her but is a really tight squeeze to get buckled in because the base is so wide it covers up the seat belt buckle.

On a side note, I've seen other discussions where people say you can't use a child seat in the center position in the Libby. That's wrong, unless they changed the design after 2002. There are LATCH anchors for all three positions (the center spot shares the anchors on each side). The split where the seats fold down is in kind of an awkward spot, but you just have to position the baby seat carefully. It can be hard on your back reaching in to grab the baby in those dang heavy carriers, but if you get T-boned you'll be glad they were in the middle.

We've also have the Graco Snugride and we've loved it. However, my daughter at 8-months is now about 28" and maybe 25lbs so at this point her head is too close to the top and we'll need top get a larger one. I would still buy it again b/c having the ability to take the car seat out of the base in the car and place it on a stroller (Baby Jogger City Mini w/ an adapter for the car seat) is very nice when they are sleeping. I have kept it in the middle rear facing and at 6'2" I have enough room to sit on either side of the car seat (so long as I move the front seats up) and have even changed a few dippers on my lap back there in the winter time. I'm loving the summer air as I can now just change her in the truck area.

As for the ride back there she's slept right though all the pot holes and has even enjoyed a few trips on the beach at Robert Moses which is not smooth at all. Good luck and congrats on the baby!

I wish I could make that argument to my wife...

"Honey, we're going to have to change the springs and shocks on the Jeep so that that baby will have a safer, more comfortable ride."

Too bad my wife isn't dumb. She worked in the service department for a VW/Audi/Porsche dealer before we had our first. She knows what's up. :?

Scooby, where in NYC are you? I planned to go to Robert Moses one weekend, can you drive to the beach area or do you have to park outside.

67Customs, she better agree, unless she wants me to buy another car for when we ride with the baby.
