This weekend my passenger window stopped working. It will go up but when I try to roll it down the cable will come up from the inside, with no movement from the window. From what I have read it is probably the plastic main tube for the cable that is broken, and the Steiger parts will not fix this issue. The stealership wants $154 for the parts. Is there anywhere else I can get these parts for a better price, or am I stuck getting them from the stealership?

Just my :2cents: . . .

Pull the door panel off and confirm that you cannot use the Steiger fix first. The dealership fix is just going to break again eventually, and probably at the most inopportune moment. As long as the tube containing the worm gear has not broken, you're good. Sometimes, if you've continually cranked on it, the motor will feed the worm gear up through the window slot, pressing through the carrier just below.

Get in there and check it out. Here's a link to door panel removal instructions. http://www.steigerperformance.com/docs/ ... ctions.pdf

I take it from the lack of responses, that there is no other place to get a regulator for a better price. So looks like I'm stuck getting it from the stealership.

You know for sure you need the whole regulator?

If so I would try junkyards. Last time I talked to a dealer they wanted $300+ because they said they had to replace the glass too with an "updated version."

I haven't taken the door apart to check cause I didn't have time, but from what I have read it seems very probable. When I went to the dealer the other day, they told me it would be $154 for the parts and $146 for labor, so $300 all together. Didn't say anything about new glass. The shop at the corner said he would do it for $250, plus I'm having him do some other stuff too, so I guess I'm just gonna do that.

My passenger rear window just broke as well. I took to door panel off to investigate the problem. After finding the plastic tube broken and knowing the stealership would charge an arm and a leg to fix, I decided just to wedge the window in the up position. After all, how often do you use your rear pass window anyway. Cut a 1x2 board to length and wedged it inside the door underneath the glass, thus keep the window from falling.
Can't roll the window down of course, but at least it keeps someone from getting in and I don't have to worry about he window falling in inclement weather.
