Back home in WV, was trail riding yesterday. Went up a small embankment goosed the gas to spin the tires..next thing I know throttle is stuck WIDE OPEN. I flew threw the creek wheel cranked left, both feet on the brake, plowing straight towards a hillside. Went up over a rock and into the hillside where I came to a stop VERY off camber.

After washing my boxers out in the creek I popped the hood, throttle cable on the body was operating fine, wasn't stuck open or w/e. I think maybe the pedal got stuck under the floor mat, and the hit from the hillside knocked it loose?

Only thing that makes me wonder WTF happened was that my cruise control will NOT work when I push SET now. Sound fishy to you? Blown fuse?

...I'm off to take the actual MUD trucks out now, so I'll check up on this later tonight.

Long shot, but check your motor mounts,too... it has happend ( maybe never on KJ though) that bad mounts let the engine move enough to move the throttle cable.

Is it possible that you accidentally turned the cruise on while wheeling and when you turned into the creek hit Resume? I have bumped the cruise on a few times off road, I always watch my Dash so I turn it off as soon as I see it. Check your fuses, if that doesn't work disconnect your battery for 10 minutes and then try it.

I can't imagine that he was going fast enough when this occurred for the cruise control to be able to do any thing at all, it's disabled below 40ish mph right?

not to say something in that system didn't malfunction - but it doesn't sound like a driver error like hitting the resume

My cruise will re-engage at any speed. I've resumed from 10km/h to 110km/h on a highway on ramp.

interesting

mine is disabled at any speed below 40ish

perhaps a year / model difference

edit:
i partly take that back

I can't SET the cruise below 40ish

i can HOLD down the resume button and cause it to accelerate but it does it at an extremely slow and steady rate and it takes about ~3 seconds for it to engage the accel at that speed

I have a PDF copy of the owners manual which states the following;

ELECTRONIC SPEED CONTROL
When engaged, this device takes over accelerator operations at speeds greater than 35 mph (60 km/h). The controls are mounted on the steering wheel and consist of ON·OFF, SET, RES·ACCEL, CANCEL, and COAST controls

To Resume Speed
To resume a previously set speed, press and release the RES·ACCEL button. Resume can be used at any speed above 30 mph (50 km/h).

When he hit the brake it should have automatically canceled the cruise control anyways. My vote is for a gas pedal stck under the floor mat. I've had that happen a few times with my aftermarket floor mats. I think they were made by Toyota

I have had my pedal get stuck on my aftermarket floormats once and it was scary.
Gave the floormats away.

Yup, was def going to slow to have the cruise even engage and as said the brakes would have turned it off. I need to look at the manual, there a fuse for the cruise control? I cant drive back to NC w/ out cruise lol.
