within the last month or so, a loud thumping noise have been coming from my passenger side front end. i also have been noticing irregular tire wear on my tires.(duratracs  )

i took the jeep to my mechanic today and he told me that the upper ball joints were shot.

My question is can i just replace the UBJ itself or do i need to buy a whole ne upper control arm?

and where can i purchase Upper ball joints if i need to buy? i have heard of MOOG Lower ball joints, but do they have upper?

thanks everyone

you'll need the entire UCA assembly, the balljoint in them is by moog, just not greasable or replaceable in their stock state

for a stock non-lifted jeep this is pretty much your only option

the UCA's really aren't that expensive

check your recalls at jeep.com and make sure you got the last UCA recall if you didn't you can get them replaced free

I'll post pics when I get a chance but I drilled, tapped, and put a grease fitting in my Stock UCA's. I think its a good mod.

I have a lift on my liberty.

2 inch BDS lift with Rancho RSX ( when they were made) up front.

does this matter?

and thanks for the pics... that would def be helpful.

you know hoe much the replacements would go for?

Hey so if you have a Lift. I would suggest some JBA 4.5 Arms if you have the money, or even tho they are from RRO I know a guy with RRO Insane arms and he likes them., Even tho many many ppl including me will never deal with RRO. I have torn the boots on 3 UCA's since I lifted my Libby and am saving money for some 4.5's

i dont think i can get them for replaced for free... i modified the OEM status by lifting the jeep. i assume this voids it.

pretty sure you're right about it voiding it

i have loved my JBA4.5's for the last 25kish miles, the guy that does my alignments has loved them too

RRO insane arms are an option, between RRO issues with the company themselves, and quality control issues, i can't sit here and suggest that as an option and still sleep at night

nothing wrong with refurb, 9 parts out of 10 that's what you want anyway as there won't be any fitment problems because it's actually the correct part though you run into that more so with CV's and driveshafts than anything else

Check with the Dealership - some of the ones around here - sell lifted Jeeps and they covered my upper ball joints under warranty.
(does kinda depend on how hungry they are - point out that if they're not covered - you'll replace them yourself with aftermarket A-arms - lots of times they'd rather get warranty pay - than no pay)
