Just some thoughts
How thick is the metal that you are using?
1"X2" seems small for a rock rail, sure it will hold the weight of the KJ?
and yes agree with TJKJ, 69 is too long they will be sticking past the fender on both ends.
Are you attaching them to the pinch weld ?

69" is a little to long. You guys are both right, going to trim them down to size when all is done. I am going to bold and weld to the frame and also weld to the pinch. Was just going to go off the pinch but didn't feel very safe with all of the weight on such a small weld. Grinding every thing down on Thursday and then welding it all together.

Very "light" wheeling maybe, but not too small for one thing, the way they are attached they would be torn off real easy. Pinch weld would be bent easily when hit....
Sorry but,....My :2cents:

Way too light, welding needs to be better and designed to fail. They may do a decent job at keepin shopping carts at bay...........

Don't get discouraged dude. It's cool that you're out there building your own stuff. I'm stealing a couple of ideas along the way!

Just to be clear I am sorry if I came off sounding like a d**k head and after rereading what I said.....yep I sounded like one
I do think it is awesome that your trying new things, fabbing with steel is one of them. For some future ideas on some rock rails, sliders or whatever ya want to call them check around the internet for what is already out there and proven. They will give you some great ideas and better design qualities to them that will stand up to what they are intended for. Keep on fabbin :JEEPIN:

Suggestion: Take a look at some of the shop-made ones for how they connect with the pinch weld. It's a long flat joint with multiple connection points. That'll better distribute the load in the case of a shear load or impact. I think if you were able to get a section of 1x1/8, you may be able to add it to what you already have for a lot of extra strength.

Found this late so forgive me. Like most I agree these are vastly undersized and need a more distributed mounting.

The stock ones are about 2" in diameter, and slightly under 1/8" thick, and they are really weak. The mounting makes them worse.

I would try for about three times as strong as the stock to resist bending, at least 1/8, probably 3/16" thick to resist local denting, and distribute the mounting as good as you can.

To achieve 3x strength as the stock rails, you'll need at least 1.5" square x 3/16" wall. I like the 2" square x 3/16" that so many pro's like to use for these myself.

Good luck!

Dang, I stop popping on for awhile and I have a full couple days worth of posts to catch up on, lol. They look good but I agree a little too light weight. Fabbing up stuff is always fun and these are on my list of projects too. Now if only the dang heat will let up for more welding. This 100 at 9pm sucks!
