How many know all of the words to the Star Spangled Banner

Or did you even know that there was a 2nd, 3rd or even a 4th verse?
Most don't anymore.
Some would more than likely challenge the "In God we Trust" motto I am sure
Just thought I would share since I came across it again

The Star Spangled Banner
O! say can you see by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming.
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there;
O! say does that star-spangled banner yet wave,
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner, O! long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more!
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave

Between their loved home and the war's desolation!

I knew this. Some may be surprised to find out there is no law seperating church and state. The ignorant and the sheeple are destined to be extinct.

This topic came up over the Fourth of July, I stated that there was more than one verse, my nephew bet me I was wrong. So had to send this to him. Also was on another forum I am on discussing it as well

It kind of goes hand in hand. Many are trying to erase in GOD We Trust and other religeous sayings that our country was founded on from public buildings and the like. Good history lesson. Many lack history knowledge, and it is sad because history always repeats itself. Want to know the future....know the past.

Didn't know that Tom,thanks for posting.

I heard a guy call in to talk radio and said that the 21 gun salute comes from adding all the numbers in 1776...1+7+7+6=21
Can someone vouch for that,or is it a crock.

LOL, no that's not it. It has to do with cannon fire. When ships came into port, they would fire off their cannons to empty them and show that they were harmless. They did this 7 cannons at a time because they thought 7 was a lucky or religeous number. Shore batterys could fire 3 for evey one of the ships cannons so 3x7 equals 21.

i think is bull that schools dont let us do the pleg im still in high school. the pleg has not much to do with religon one word and they ban it, this is america and as far as im concerned this country is falling apart because of the lack of money and patritisum. :2cents:

My sympathies to my brothers and sisters that had to suffer through the public school system.... the DMV of education.

Try doing it back in the 1960's. I wore a heavy winter coat through May to soften the blows from angry black folks. Teachers were to scared to do anything and looked the other way. Only recourse was, my dad was a parole officer and often times, sent many of their "brothas" back to the big house.

I did it back in the 1960s, actually started first grade in 60, small country school, no problems at all. Just as good as any private school back then.
Things are different now though. What a shame

I guess being raised in the Kansas City (big city) area had it's disappointments. Once my sister stuck up for her friend when 3 sistas were picking a fight, and my sister kicked them. She was good with her feet. They raced home the 2 blocks, and soon after, there were so many blacks in our front yard, that I couldn't see the green on the grass. The cop cars came sliding in, and one of the brothas jumped up on the hood and yelled...."They can't take us all in!" The only excited the crowd further. I got home about the same time, and my mom was peeking out the window holding a butcher knife. Yea, it was fun.

I think a lot depends on your location and the opportunities you have. I came up in the Louisiana public school system, which is one of the worst in the country. But, since I grew up in East Baton Rouge Parish (parish = county everywhere else) I had access to Magnet and G/T (Gifted and Talented) programs, which my parents got me into. I went through the G/T program, and because of that I was well-prepared for college, even considering that I squandered my junior and senior years in high school.

But back on topic: Like I said, I went to public school, and we said the pledge every morning till I got to middle school. The principal said it over the intercom, or the teacher picked someone in class to lead it. That was in the 1980's. When we had assemblies, we sang the first verse of the Star-Spangled Banner; I knew of the last verse, but had never sang it till 4 or 5 years ago in church. (I didn't actually sing, I played drums while everyone else sang. Good song for snare cadence.) It is, if anything, further proof that the early citizens of the United States accepted the ideal of reliance upon God for blessing and freedom.

yea it is but it is also the song that is what america is about so is should be sung or said in AMERICAN SCHOOLS
