Hey all;
had the family loaded up in our 02 Ltd (Pre-April 02, 3.7L, 4 spd auto, NV231) heading for a Dr.'s appointment, engine and trans still not up to operating temperature... noticed a 'tick' coming from the transmission gear shifter area; could feel it noticeably from the trans. shifter; frequency of tick was clearly related to traveling speed. Kicked the transmission into neutral, tx case in and out of 4wd and dropped the transmission back into gear, got a really weird whining sound that disapated and ever since is ... GONE! Hasn't come back... Being a worrier, WTF was that? I have the cookie monster (patriot blue, likes to eat; A lot.) booked in for trans filter & oil, diffs & transfer oil this Friday (Just barely over 100000KM ~ 60000 Miles). I fear to say it, but I haven't used the 4wd feature in MONTHS.
Also is occasionally sluggish to come out of 4wd high range. When we first got the Jeep a few years ago, LostKJ members indicated that if I made the change from 2wd to 4wd while rolling it would be smoother and it was by tonnes. I've also noticed it seems to hang up coming out of 4wd. Thinking the two issues may be related? Or is there more zen technique required?
Thanks for your input.
Rob.
