I use the following wrench set for most vehicles and with the extended breaker bar on the end of these wrenches, I never failed to get a fan clutch loose. I'm not strong for I am an old one arm bandit that can't even hang wallpaper. :ROTFL:

You should never bang on a pulley bearing or for most gas vehicles the water pump unless it is going to be replaced anyway.

The "banging" initial shock vibrations breaks it free. If you don't hit it you just end up turning the whole engine over...at least thats what mine did.

Don't hit it hard, just a gentle tap with a normal hammer on the end of the large crescent wrench does the trick. I bought a 15" adjustable crescent wrench at harbor freight for ~$10.00 If you have on in the local area and its a useful tool for other stuff so you might as well keep it. :)

The 2nd wrench is to prevent the pulley from turning which also hold the engine from turning. Two wrenches pulled together in opposite direction works wonders and you won't break nothing, not even your knuckles.

Just wanted to throw out a thanks to everyone on the Lost board, you guys are a huge help. none of my local auto parts stores can even order a fan clutch for my CRD. Thanks to Racertracer for the part number. It looks like Summit racing also sells it for $54. Just to give you all a heads up the dealership quoted me a price of $256.00 for the fan clutch!
It appears to be the same fan clutch used in the 05-08 V-8 Commanders and Cherokees

NICE! I didn't have that option back when mine failed. :( But glad I went with the FFF anyway. :)
