I just got a flyer in the mail from one of the jeep dealers in the area and it lists the 2007 Jeep Compass. Have I missed the posts about it? What gives?

I got a first hand look at the Compass at the International Auto SHow in Toronto....I can see where some people may like it...but honestly...its a mini van with a Jeep badge on it.....I don't know what Jeep was thinking when they put this together.

They were thinking now that Pontiac is not making the Aztec anymore there was a gap to fill.

the compass looks a like practical commuter car...the all wheel drive would be handy here in the snowbelt...

I think you folks may be a little confused about it's size...its not as big as a minivan. It will be based on the Dodge Caliber platform (think Neon replacement). This will be a compact wagon type vehicle...I won't buy one but I can see it's practicality...

From what i have read. Jeep is going after the WRX crowd. Outside the US the World Rally Cup is a very big thing and DC is thinking about makeing a statement. Just something i have heard.

Jeep is adding to their line up, and it understandable. The Compass is designed to target the same audience that is out there buying the Chevy Equinox of the Toyo Rav4. Its a pretty large crowd too, so they stand to fair pretty well in it. Plus, with the history and heritage of the 'Jeep' nameplate behind it, people will like it.

However, the hardcore wheelers and whatnot will argue that Jeep is going soft. I don't know that I agree with all that, I think they see an opening in the market and are trying to capitalize off that. Wouldn't you??

I agree with Fish Eye on Jeep trying to get into that market. But for years Jeeps have been nice looking, off-road capable vehicles. I'm very disappointed in the Compass. I think it is one of the ugliest vehicles I have ever seen, right next to the Honda Element, and Pontiac Aztek (no offense to those owners if there are some, that's just my opinion), I just wish if Jeep wanted to get into that market that at least they would make a vehicle that looked somewhat attractive......I think Jeep is working hard to disgraced the name a little bit with the Compass. YUKK!!! :x

Jeep has to diversify its offerings to stay competitive or they'll go the way of Plymouth.

The Compass isn't bad looking. Maybe in the future it will get my father out of his Subaru.

I also own an Aztek. For a family vehicle it can;t be beat. It just got a bum rap because of it;s front end. I wouldn't want to take it into the woods, but it get 28 mpg on the highway. Much better than my KJ

At the moment, there are VERY few cars on the market that are 4WD/AWD and < $30,000. If the Compass can take that market, awesome!

My first requirement when I was looking for a vehicle was storage space. I wanted a lot of room to store things, but I didn't want a large vehicle. So compact-SUV it was. Jeep only came into the picture when they were one of the few to offer a manual transmission, and I figured if I'm going to drive an SUV, I may as well get one that lives up to the offroad name.

As for the Compass, anybody who is looking for a passenger vehicle that is good in all weather conditions, why not get the jeep? If they can take the rugged reliability of the Jeep and stick it in the comfort of a sedan/wagon, and price it along with the other sedans, we have a winner!

I eluded to this in a thread that got slightly high-jacked in the 4X4 section.

Its funny to me that the Jeep community (some people here anyway) are less than warm to the thought of the Compass. I like the way it looks. Its not my favorite, but I do like it.

I do see some irony though, because everyone dogs the Liberties and how they suck on the trail and this and that. And here are a lot of Liberty owners dogging the Compass, because it doesn't do what all the other Jeeps can do. Well, it does a few things that ours can't do.

1. Provide Decent Fuel Efficiency - hey, I'm jealous!!
2. Offer better road handling

And that's just a few things.

I see your point with performance, but all the other Jeeps at least look good. I know that my Libby would be right next to the Cherokee or Cammander no matter where they go off-road. But at least each truck looks good. I just think the Compass is ugly, it reminds me of the Toyota Echo.......a jelly bean or turtle. The only thing about the Compass that makes the word "jeep" even come to mind is the grill. Maybe the compass will come out and surprise me, who knows? It wouldn't be the first time I have tasted my foot

As I was first reading this thread, i couldn't understand why most people didn't like the look of the compass. When i first saw it in pics like this one, i kind of liked it. Especially some of the little things like the subtle rear door handles that made it look like a 2 door vehicle. Too bad some things changed from concept to production, and after looking at the pics on the jeep website, i've completly changed my mind. the aztek comparisons now seem more valid.

We were thinking of getting one (if you have to have a car it may as well be a Jeep), then they changed the front bumper. So we got a used XJ instead. It was kind of neat looking. As long as the people that do end up buying them like them, I guess that's all that really matters.

Won't take long for another car company to produce something butt-uglier and then the Compass will look normal and maybe even cool. FLAME OFF. :P
