tjkj2002,
You are 100% correct.
Parts are scarce as hen's teeth.
But that Green Diesel Flash sure does have my CRD rattling like a hot dog cart at an evening ball game.
I keep waiting for it to break down and when, then, I will fire that ol' gasser up and go find some parts.
Bless those ol' gassers.

Then I forget why you post in the CRD section. Remind us.

You constantly post things that are deliberately insulting, with no technical or helpful value in the post.

I don't care either, just get pissed when you all say your CRD's the end of all end vehicles, which they are not.

tkjk2002,
I appreciate your comments, you helped me.
How about giving these other guys a break?
They are under the influence of the throbbing diesel, their minds a little entranced, but good.

*sigh* Just when I was looking forward to some sanity from my fellow Libby diesel-heads by taking a break from the gasoholic haters railing against diesel Bimmers, I'm saddened to see that the phenomenon of malcontents coming into someone else's back yard and pooping in the corner isn't limited to passenger cars. :(

Are there times when I wish that DC/Jeep had put a nice needle-bearinged, furnace-brazed TC in my 545RFE, or fitted a lift-pump or a nice, high-quality fuel filter head? Yup, but I love my Libby just the same -- and out of courtesy, I don't go into gasser sub-forums stirring up poop. *sigh, again*

Regards
D

In my opinion the GDE tune went a long ways in the direction of adding dependability of our rigs.

First off, LOVE your rig. It's sweet. 2nd, I'm not sure anyone is trying to claim rights to the best of the best of vehicles, certanly not our CRD's. They are full of design flaws, alot of things that out of the box cause long term reliability issues if not addressed. I do believe they can be dependable and strong if those issues are addressed. Like I said earlier, about gas vs diesel...they have different purposes in mine when they were designed. I've always loved the torque of a v8 and to get that w/the economy better than a 4 cylinder gas jeep is great. Only downside is I am not convinced on my jeeps reliability quite yet. It's been good to me with only one issue I fixed right away, I just hope it stays dependable...fingers crossed. I will tell you I get 23mpg in my 360hp dodge charger when I drive on road trips vs the 30 I could get just to ensure a comfordable and DEPENDABLE ride. If I hadn't already done the timing belt and put the lift on, etc, I probably would have gone and bought either a V8 grand cherokee and say screw the gas mileage in trade for instant torque, v8 power, and a timing CHAIN instead of my belt that I always worry about.

Another thing...

Why did jeep ever go away from solid axle on all rigs except a wrangler?!? :(

Mark, seems like you (although you are a cracking Maguiver when it comes to the CRD and I follow your threads) are stuck with 'old fashion' ideas about engine design.

A timing chain is no more or less reliable then a timing belt. (Mine broke..1997 Chrysler T&C)

It does however add $$$ to engine design. You need constant lube on a chain, and an hydrolic tensioner. Parts are heavier etc.

Most vehicles on the road today in Europe have a belt. Also 16V twincam etc. If you maintain it properly it will never let you down. What scares me is that you guys get a 100K miles interval while we have 100k Kilometers (60k miles) which imo is a much saver milage. On mine the belt tensioner was about to fail after 60K..

A V8 gasser is a nice engine. But as outdated as orange tiles in your kitchen and long hair with sideburns. Nowadays multivalves, compressors & turbos and high rev's is what it's all about. And high MPG. Most gassers here do over 30MPG.

Jeep got rid of the SFA because of market changes. People wanted a SUV, not a hardcore offroader.

Troy, the CRD will brake down ect just like any other vehicle. The point here is that everybody seems to hate the diesel, call us weirdos and tree-hughers and come up with the stupidest arguments to 'proove' their gasser is way better. Which it is not. When we politely try to show what the benefits of diesels are we get burned and called whatever by people who have no clue what they are talking about.

If you come in here and say 'CRD's suck a big fat one' and then nothing in an otherwise reasonably educated thread...what does that make people think of you?

I know you know your stuff. I know you know diesels. But there is a huge difference between a Peterbuild and a 4 banger passenger car diesel. You even claim 'VW TDI's are a bunch of crap'...

The 1974 VW Rabbit (Golf) diesel put the little 4 bangers on the map. Now you say that after building little diesel engines for the last 36 years (!) they still don't know how they should do it right?

I hope you had a minute to read through this and see the point:

If you come in here arguing like a 6 year old we're going nowhere but another locked thread.

If on the other hand you have a good argument, we are willing to listen.

Greetz, Tony.

PS: I cleaned up the thread, please refrain from calling eachoter names. Nothing good or constructive comes from that.
