I have been having precisely the same symptoms as described above, and have been struggling to find a solution. I was wondering if anyone had found a permanent fix for the problem?

I have come across two schools of thought about the problem: 1. blend door problems (possibly due to vacuum problems), and 2. A/C problems.

If it is an A/C problem does the A/C compressor need to be replaced?

What is the best way to describe the problem to a mechanic so that I can focus his attention?

Just as a follow up to my issue. Found out the evap is frosting over stopping all air flow. If I turn the A/C off for around 10min(leaving the fan blowing) the A/C comes back no problem. Bad low side sensor that sits on top of the accumulator is the problem. $30 part at napa.
