FTL.

so the other day, i took my kaayJ ouut in the mud. during a large puddle crossing, i quickly realized this was not a puddle - but a wet sandy abyss. my hood was under, as well as my exhaust for about 1 minute. i managed to get herr exhaust out by backing up after a couple tries, then bailed out the window and pushed her the rest of the way out whilemy friend drove. a couple guys who were watching said we shot water out the exhaust, and alot of it. my interior took on alotof water, about 8 inches. my intake and everything was under guys, but my air filter was dry. anyways. i basically washed her, and tore out the carpet - now what? oil change, drain diffs, and brake fluid, because they all have water. super worried about my electrics tho. again, the water was SANDY as heck, i already had to replace a pullie since my belt flew off while i was driving, and my coolant temp sensor is shot so im overheating.

what else should i be doing, and what problems should i expect?

silt, sand, etc will tear the idler pullys all to pieces and kill the motor on electric fans

in addition to what you've already done to get it dried out, you need to pop the grill off and clean the radiator/ac/trans cores out really good and make sure theres not a bunch of junk crammed up in there

other than that, spray her off good, change front and rear diffs and the transfer case and tranny, get some electrical connector spray or WD40 since that's what it was originally intended to do, and clean out your major electrical connections

Gotta pay to play, lol

oh, in board tradition..

Video/Pics or it didn't happen :P

did the same thing in my KK but was so bad a truck couldnt pull me out so we had to wait to get a backhoe, so it was sitting for a while. water was in my interior and exhaust but wasnt up high enough to get into the manifolds or into the engine either way. intake filter and engine bay stayed fairly dry, except the bottom of course.

i pulled my interior apart and pressure washed everything real good, let it dry and went ahead and shampooed afterward. while the it was tore apart i wiped the interior clean from any swamp muck and left the windows cracked so it wouldnt smell like mildew. it took a few days worth of cleaning but nobody can notice it was ever submerged and i often times get compliments on how clean and good smelling it is, while the outside is usually a mess.

i had a couple weird electrical glitches with the airbag light coming on and it was a module under the passenger seat actually got wet, took it apart and sprayed it out with contact cleaner. went ahead and did every connector i could find in the inside while i was at it. changed the fluids in everything but the tranny, i checked the fluid and there was no water, and they were all contaminate free anyway.

immediately after getting it out i tried to start it and the starter didnt click over or anything, i got under the jeep and hit it with a hammer and it started right up. twice within a month of it happening the starter got stuck in the start position so even after it was running it kept trying to keep cranking, i would shut it off and it would be ok, never came back. since then i have replaced an idler pulley, lbj and rear axle seal. all of which may or may not have been caused by it but i wheel mine a couple times a month so who knows.
