Safe bet if you don't want to deal with the TC is to go with the ECO tune.

X2, I am going to tune the wife's sport back down to an Eco tune, 1 TC change is enough for me, and the Dr. Tranny does not completely eliminate the shudder under all driving conditions. I downloaded the ECU today, I am waiting for GDE to email me the Eco tune, then I will upload it the to ECU with the GDE tuning tool.

Radman,

It sounds like this vehicle was poorly maintained, hence the little hiccups. Mine just went into all sorts of nagging behaviors until I got it fixed with the GDE hot tune and other fixes (MAP sensor, oil, filters, exhaust, CCV). It's been running great ever since and am smack in the middle of a TC & Transgo overhaul for the tranny. It does require time, good maintenance and a bit of dough  but you get rewarded with a fun, nice-looking and well performing vehicle.

If able to, give a very close look to the engine compartment. Even something as obvious as the air filter being clogged and dirty might give you an indication of the rest, as well as how careless a vendor can be...

Good luck in your endeavour, hope you find a real nice one in top shape! :google:

So been looking for a CRD past couple weeks. Found one and went for test drve last night. Pull out of dealer lot and merge onto rural highway, all going well so far. Then when I decelerated it started vibrating furiously. I stopped at the stop light and put in neutral hoping to reduce vibration no luck. Then when I put back in drive no go... nothing happening. Idle holding still even at WOT. Stuck in left lane with oncoming traffic at 80KMH. Family in car... Finally able to inch myself over to the shoulder. Salesman trying all kinds of excuses... maybe not warmed up enough, normal to vibrate as it is diesel etc... I have owned 3 Diesel TDI VW's so know what is normal or not! Once I shutdown the engine and re-started all was okay. Seems like tranny went into limp mode or something else? I hastilly made my way back to dealer un-impressed. Told him to check the tranny recalls etc. Any ideas? It seems electrical although no CEL. It is a 2006 with 78000 KMS on it so still warranteed.
Any ideas if serious issue or not?

I think we covered this very thoroughly many moons ago. This is air in the fuel. It gathers in the fliter housing because it is the highest point in the fuel system...especially as the car sits. Then, as fuel demand surges (first time after start-up) you get engine problems described above. shifting to nuetral, waiting, or restart solve the immediate problem.

Worrisome issue might be the leak in the fuel filter cap at the fuel-heater plug. See the CRD tech section. This is solvable.

I would low-ball the salesman...you are armed with the solution and he has no idea about a solution.

Humble submitted,

Just got back from test drive number 2. They apparently replaced a hose that had a vacuum leak or something... salesman was not sure. Regardless all went well this time. I did not see any fuel leaks etc, however if the filter is sucking air this would not be visible anyways. Carproof shows no major reports and only one owner. I found the service records in the glovebox and all stamps were in place for all service intervals. I am tracking down the dealer now and will call them to see if any major repairs. The TCM F-37 recall was also done.
I will dump all fluids and filters before winter regardless so I know for sure all was done.

Anything else I should check? How can you tell if 4WD system functioning properly?

Also someone else was checking it out when I was there, he was not interested because there was no MFA trip computer in this model. Was that an option in a Limited? Or do the diesels not come with it at all?

There is an EVIC in the Limited models, not the Sport models. It provides temp, mpg (rough estimate), miles driven, tire pressure, time to service, etc.

It can be installed later, if you really want it. viewtopic.php?f=98&t=27605

Sounds like what mine would do until I disconnected the EGR.
You might be able to pick it up cheap.

May be part of the moonroof package as the one I am looking it does not have the moonroof either. Nor does it have radio controls on back of steering wheel. Does have cruise control ones on front and power driver seat however. Otherwise it is identical to yours Stoutdog. Same color.

Sounds like my Limited.

Hint: Not all "Limited" models came with everything that DCX decided was an extra price option.

I do not have:
Moon roof
Evic
Radio controls on the steering wheel
Leather seats
Heated seats

What I DO have:
Aluminum wheels
Power driver's seat
Cruise control
Evic (That I installed myself)

FYI: The EVIC is not only offered with the moonroof system. The first Limited I looked at had an EVIC, no moonroof. The second had a moon roof... No Evic. I got an EVIC with the moonroof controls, 3-button Homelink system, and TPMS. The first time it powered up, it showed me the TPMS screen and started displaying the pressures... Then the screen went away and hasn't returned since.

I need a way to re-code the BCM to tell the stupid car that I have a TPMS capable EVIC. Now when there is a problem (Like a bad sensor) the EVIC just displays what the dashboard does in the ODO: Check TPM System. Wow, that is helpful. Like the MIL: General Car Fault. Fix.

Geordi you taught me something. I thought that ALL limiteds at least had leather seats...

So what you're saying is you paid for a chrome grill and painted fenders and an extra badge on your rear?

DCX rewarded your frugality by forcing you to replace your engine. :banghead:

We must be distant relatives.

It's true.. in my shopping I saw Limiteds with cloth seats, no sunroof, no CD changer, no EVIC, absolutely nothing. Bare bones except for the chrome grille. On the flip side, I also saw a couple of Sports with leather, EVIC, sunroof, the whole nine yards. So you could get either with any option.

It was VERY odd how DCX packaged these things. Almost makes a Limited model worthless. Although strangely enough, the Limiteds are valued higher in the marketplace. :?:

Not all the Limited came with, mine did not. Bought new at the dealer.

Ahh, yes - More options I forgot about.

My Limited *does* have the painted fenders and chrome (plastic) grille.
It *did* have the Sirius Radio receiver, but I removed that (For sale if anyone wants it)

I never had the CD changer either.

It looks like the main "Limited" package group was just the fenders and grille, and everything else was added in based on how the sales material was prepared for the dealer. Some may have ordered them with the literature showing you had to buy *everything* and had little options to change... (Kinda like how you get SCREWED on the Grand Cherokee CRD or the Touareg Diesel) others may have left it as everything could be selected individually. The way it is supposed to be.

Well the deal is done! I picked up the Libby at noon today. :D Will let you guys know how it goes. Seems to be a bit of vibration under deceleration, not sure yet if brake related or driveshaft / CV joint. Need to try it out a bit more to determine if warped disc or something else.

You can apply pump pressure with the primer if you want to see the bubbles...
