I have Rustys rear shocks and on one of the rear shocks, the upper rubber eyelet grommet (the part that mounts to the vehicle) broke and now the shock rattles. I called Rustys to see if they could send me one, but it was about $20 after shipping costs. I felt they should have sent it for free, or perhaps a minimal cost of shipping, but they're too stingy I guess. So now I want to know if other grommets would fit.

Does anyone know if the rubber grommet is a universal one, like if a Rancho type will fit? Or did Rustys design their own and only theirs will fit the shock?

If I cannot find another grommet, then I will remove their crap and get another brand. I hate cheapskates...

Rustys uses about the cheapest shocks out there for the rear to begin with. They fit terrible and are weak even new. I would just bite the bullet and get new better shocks and be done with it!

I have to agree with Tom. You can buy some cheapy rear shox from AutoZone for a Durango 4x4 with a lifetime warranty for $25 each. They would probably be better than the Rusty's.

Really?? That would be great! The Rustys suspension in the rear uses a spacer to lift it 2.5". Would those Durango shox work with the extra lift? What year Durango should I say I have?

thanks for the feedback and ideas all!

Yes. When you lift a Liberty, rear shocks for a 2000 Dodge Durango are a better length shock. They also have Bilstein for about $60 if you want to make a real improvement.

thanks!
I went with Skyjacker Nitros. Couldnt find Bilsteins at a decent price.

I'm doing a frankenlift front with 790's. So a stiffer rear shock for now is in order. I'll be getting OME rear springs and will see what the Skyjackers do then. Never had a prob with them tho, I think they'll be fine....

I wish I could send my rusty;s crap back to them, but that would cost me $$$$......

Did you buy the N8088? I've got a few spare bushings for when your's dissintegrate. Good news is that SkyJacker sent me some for free. The steel bushing insert isn't a real tight fit with the upper shock mounting bolt. The slack there shredded my bushings/inserts in about 15K miles.

yup, got the 8088's. Darn about the bushings/steel tube, had that issue on another vehicle years back. I might just go with the Bilsteins if I can get them for $160/pr and sell the 8088's...
