Man, that is cool! A blast from the past and a great post of an old beast.

I didn't know that AMC had a turbo diesel.

Hard to read the Ad clearly though.

Is it a VM diesel?

Yes, to the left of the engine pic, it says "the VM inline 6 cylinder turbo diesel" that was a big engine for an Eagle?

And it came with a "Fuel Boost Pump"! When will we learn?

And the Bosch VE pump could suck the fuel out of the tank for real even with out the lift pump and bleed the bubbles into the return line. With the VWs you could put on a dry filter start the engine three times and the filter was bleed out.
Of course the lift pump made it run even better.
Both VW, BMW, Peugeot, and the early 5.9L 12 valve Cummins engines used versions of the Bosch VE.
Japs used Nipon Denzo copies of the Bosch VE on many of their engines.

I would love one of those in my TJ, I am assuming that it didn't have a computer.... where do I look for one?

Here's the engine at the VM MOTORI site.

I wonder if one of those eagles are still around? Looks like it might have been built during 1983 to 85.

Here's more info..... http://www.amceaglenest.com/images/Eagl ... riants.pdf

I'll be a monkey's uncle. Looks like AMC/Jeep has been in bed with VM for a coon's age!

I've never seen one, but I remember finding a forum 3-4 years ago where someone spotted one running around still. Big ol, TURBO DIESEL sticker on the side.

Also, click the pictures to view them in fullsize and for better readability.

I certainly knew about the 4X4 car/wagon but never knew there was a diesel option. Would be neat to find one cheaply somewhere but it would probably take more mechanical ability than I have to keep it going. Manual or only AT?

It does NOT appear that AMC installed this engine

The way I read the ad "American Eagle Turbo-Diesel" did a conversion

It does not tell you to visit your local AMC/Jeep dealer but instead call and leave a message :dead:

But no doubt, it's still neat :jester:

So who's gonna call and ask about the conversion?

I remember driving in one back in the mid-80s in Utah. It was a gas version, but was amazing in deep snow.

With a 1,500 mile range, it must have a 40+ gallon fuel tank.
