I'm stuck with the F31 and so towing up hills makes the transmission hunt for the right gear so I'm saving up for the GDE Eco/Hot Tune, TCM Tune & new Torque converter to handle the power. Probably do the Eco Tune first.

...BTW, anyone have a ball park figure as to how much it is to replace a torque coverter?

F31 is th original TCM programming GDE sold! The new progamming is F37 and it's a free upgrade from the dealer...I suggest you buy the ECO "torque" tune and keep your F31 TCM :-) You already have the TCM tune...

I got the programmer+ECO torque tune and just order the Hot tune for a extra $50 running on F37 with euro TC, since I don't Hi revup my engine I will not get turbo issue with the hot tune, just cruise arround 1800 rpm pulling my 3000 Pds camping trailer and get a extra 14 Hp/32Pds over the ECO for $50 is to much tempting to let go... I keep a eye on the full turbo kit...

A TC job is 4hr labor in the Mitchell manual... So 4hr + $300 + oil (ATF+4 Mobil one) = go figure

PS: Use ATF+4 oil don't let them put anything else in your transmission,I bring my own oil for the job if I was you (This is what I have done because I cant get a car lift to do the job myself  )

Great thread.

I haven't pulled anything but a U-Haul trailer 1X, but I hope to be I the market soon for an RV trailer. Looks like sheer weight isn't necessary the limiting factor, but stability and wind drag might be. That makes me lean towards the RV trailers that don't have such a high profile. Is there a big difference in towing for having a RV w/double axles as opposed to a single axle?

Look closely at the hitch between my KJ and trailer. That little orange (now faded to pink) device is a $3000 Hensley Arrow. IMO you need extra help with towing something twice as long as the Jeep and it does work wonders. Also you need some stronger tires and in my case a stronger rear suspension (this picture was taken before the AirLifts). More important than any equipment, however, is to keep your wits about you and never tow over 65, leave plenty of time / space to do what you want to get done, and don't try anything silly.

When we were looking for this trailer, I wanted to look at the Hi-Lo brand, but couldn't find a dealer. Those are sort of halfway between a travel trailer and a popup. Full height / width travel trailers put you more at the mercy of the wind. Thankfully in Michigan summers are mostly mild and it's pretty flat. I wouldn't want to be out in the great plains during tornado season or going through the Rockies in winter with this setup. I think length and frontal area are larger concerns than weight, but still don't go too far over 5000#.

I can't say if double axles are more stable than single. I always thought it was just a matter of weight distribution.
