Hi all,

I have a 2006 Jeep Cherokee Limited (Liberty in the States) 2.8L CRD with only 11,000 miles on the clock and I have a big problem!

Just got back from the airport in the Jeep having been idle for 5 days. Driving along the motorway the Jeep lost power ran at 60mph with no drive revs climbing to 3,000rpm without any engine whirrrr.

Then having turned the Jeep off and on again this corrected and the Jeep ran well for 140mi, until I took a roundabout at some speed and the Jeep cut out loss of total power, loss of power steering and the brakes came on.

Upon restarting the engine warning light is glowing on constantly (it didn't do this before).

Now it seems to be running fine with no detriment to power.... but the engine warning light is glowing at me still.

No ESP came on during the roundabout episode as it had done before.

Any help much appreciated, thanks!

Regards

Neil

On the US version - a Limp mode - no power - then restart okay is normally air in fuel - especially worse if the tank of fuel had contaminants or the filter hasn't been changed recently.

the air normally comes from the plug for the fuel heater - Chrysler has a new style replacement that eliminates it - that is if you have the US plastic fuel head - I think the 06's did but I'm not sure.

the only addition for the 'roundabout at speed' is that speed is using more fuel so more air is pulled in - just guessing.

but you need a code reader to identify the light - although it will stay on for 3 full engine cycles even if the cause is fixed.

FYI - plug on the right is heater - if you pull it and it leaks fuel - you need a replacement
in the US it's about $100 with installed filter - - don't know about the UK.

X2 to ATXKJ place to check.

Adding a lift pump greatly reduces chances of vacuum leaks and helps the junk Mopar fuel head live longer. Mine was replaced at 25K under warranty and still going at 64K after adding a lift pump.
If you have the Raycor filter head option that has a better and cheaper filter over in the UK, go for it.
As far as the fuel heater goes, unless make road trips to the Alps in the winter to Snow Board or Ski, the heater is useless in your part of the world.

Let us know if you hear any rumblings from Sir Isac Newton rolling over in his grave, will all of the BS flying on the airwaves over here lately, he must be. :ROTFL: :ROTFL: :ROTFL: :ROTFL:

Cheers and enjoy a pint of Gunnies with natural Nitrogen Carbonation that does not emit CO2. :ROTFL: :ROTFL: :ROTFL:

Took it to my local dealership for diagnostics.

Code : P0093

Technician report: Fuel leak suspected, no evidence of fuel leak found, possibly fuel filter housing? - fault codes cleared, observe for future faults.

I would agree with the bit about observing as the car is running fine now and hasn't cut out, although it is an anxiety I guess i'll just have to drive more sensibly around roundabouts.

It has only done 10,000miles and I have looked myself and so have the techy's and no fuel leaks, strange...

Regards

Neil

Neil.

Not so strange. That's the way air in the fuel filter head shows it's ugly head if the filter is not bad. It's the highest point in the system and air builds up there and when it burps a large amount air you know the rest. The most obvious point of air entering the system is the quick connect plastic with "O" ring coupler back above the fuel tank. They were from a gas KJ that has a intank fuel pump so they are under pressure instead of our vacuum. That's why many have installed lift pumps. As I understand it pre and post 05 & 06 KJ CRD's both have lift pumps. 05/06 modles are even all but a couple feet of wire equipted for lift pumps :jester:
