Back in the day when I was driving my Freightliner with an ISB under the hood, my Jeeps sounded more refined and quiet. After driving that V6 Sprinter for a couple of weeks, I wonder what is wrong with my Jeep when I drive it

I went to lunch with my helper in the older T1N Sprinter with the I5 and that was alot noisier as well, I told him my Sprinter has a wimpy sounding diesel in it

V Diesels suck, but I got to live with it.

Inline Diesels rule

you are right about that v diesels do sound different. sevral poeple at work have diesel trucks on teach has a Dodge with the Cummis engine and a co-worker in my department has a 2001 Ford F350 powersmoke. the powersmoke sounds very different than both mine and the cummins.

OTR Trucks favor the inline over the V engines. Cummins and Cat used to sell the V8 engines for trucks and the Truckers preferred the inline six cylinders, now the V engines are on off road and stationary applications. Navistar still makes V engines for the medium duty market.

Wife drives the WK with the Mercedes V6. At idle it's quieter, but cruising around 35-55 mph it's actually louder than the KJ.

Same engine, the 3.0 Bluetec. Mine is quiet at any speed, must be the Jeeps drive train is noisier?

Exhaust system is different, mounts are different, underhood and dash panel are different. All contribute to engine noise as perceived by the driver.

Plus my exhaust exits about 10 to 15 feet further away.

When I bought my first CRD new in May 2005 I immediately took it home and started ripping things out trying to make it louder. Engine cover.. scrapped. Sound blanket and plastic liner in engine skid plate... scrapped. Various airbox snorkle parts... scrapped. Etc.. 60% of the fun factor with a diesel is the beautiful music they play.
