Since buying this KJ, I have an annoying noise that comes from the area under the passenger seat. It's very tough to describe, but it's a cross between a rattle and a clicking noise. At first I thought it was an electrical connection that was loose and allowing a sparking noise. But I don't think that is it.

I tightened the bolts that hold the seat bracket to the floor. Problem is still there. It's most noticeable in cool or cold weather. It will drive you nuts. When it starts doing it, I can touch the side of the seat and apply very light pressure to it, and the noise goes away. As soon as I take my hand off the seat, it starts rattling/clicking again.

Any ideas on what the **** could be causing this? If it makes any difference, I have the leather, heated, power seats.

Sounds like you found the noise, just a matter of identifying what part underneath is rattling... I'd suspect the plastic trim on the seat, the seatbelt socket, or one of the moving parts in the motorized rails first. You could tape things one-by-one to see when the vibration stops.

Try where the seatbelt buckle is bolted in.

What is the previous owners "special" toy? :pepper:
If I had to guess I would say it was the seat belt mount on/near the floor.

It's just strange because if I touch the seat it stops. I will check the seatbelt bolts, but I'm thinking it must be something attached directly to the seat. If its in the seat track I'll probably never figure out how to make it quit.

I had the same exact noise. There are bolts at the side of the seat cushions, the bolts are shouldered. I do remember having to take off the side plastic trim to get to them( it was well over a year ago). I tried plastic and nylon washers, neither worked. I made duct tape washers, took thin nylon washers and wrapped them in duct tape, no noises since. I don't know if that's your noise but what you are describing sounds like it. I also wrapped a few small pieces around the seat springs on the bottom to keep them from rattling.

Hmmm, my 03 does the same thing...I always attributed the noise to stuff in the map pocket on the door or the passenger side window rattling and never really bother to check it...just turned up the radio if the windows wern't down... :JEEPIN:

But on way back from lunch I tried touching the seat and it stopped the noise....will have to try out some of the suggestions to fix now that I know... :banghead:

My BF TA KO's were worn badly when the steering rack went out twice in 30,000 and it's been heck on my passenger seat.
I look over and the darned thing is knocking the belt against the pillar at 65+.
I can hear every dang wheel revolution too.
I guess with the checking I just need new tires, tread is there just ugly.

I had an annoying problem with noise in the cargo area. The best and fastest way to find the noise is to have someone else drive your Jeep while you sit in the back and reach around and under the seat until you find the problem. This worked for me.

OK so this morning it's 49 degrees and the noise is back again now that the weather is cooler.

I am going to disassemble the passenger seat and try to figure this out.

Does anyone have a FSM procedure for this? I noticed there are a ton of wiring harnesses under the seat. Are any of these for the airbags? I have side curtain airbags. I don't want to start yanking parts off the seat and set something off.

You wont set off your air bags. If that concerns you, disconnect the battery then unplug all your plugs. Unbolt the 4 bolts and pull out your seat.

No noise when she's with me. But yea, it is annoying when alone.

Yeah I thought of that too. I had a "duh" moment. Just unbolt the seat, and remove it from the Jeep. It'll be much easier to work on laying in the driveway. Thanks.

OK so I removed the 4 bolts holding the seat to the floor, removed the 2 wiring harnesses, unbolted the seat belt, and removed the 1 harness for the belt. Then took the seat out of the Jeep and layed it down in the yard. Went over every single thing I could think of. Greased the tracks, electrical taped wiring, wrapped up a couple of safety tags that were flopping around under there, tightened down some loose switches, torqued all bolts and screws I could see, etc. etc. The whole nine yards.

Got the seat back in, bolted everything back down again, shook the seat with my hand and this "clicky/tapping/snapping" noise comes back. :banghead: &)^*)^^@! I think it's in the track itself.

HOPEFULLY.. it won't do it while just driving the Jeep. If I've improved it any at all I guess I'll be happy. We'll see soon.

Does your seat have the 2 side plasit trim pieces? Once I had my seat out I removed those and it was the bolts that hold the seat cushion assembly to the frame/base. No matter how tight those bolts were, the 2 metal surfaces squeeked. The duck tapped plastic washers in between the two metal surfaces is what took the noise totally away on mine. Or yes, always have your wife with ya, I decided to fix the seat instead because atleast I could get that to quiet down :jester:

Drove the Jeep to work this morning. It was 41 degrees outside. And all I heard inside the Jeep was silence.

Well, except for that diesel purr...

Whatever it was, I must have zapped it. Hopefully it'll stay gone!
