So that's why the hood is flat. Couldn't bend it eh?

That's the best explanation for the Renegade that I've heard so far.

Thanks for clearing that up Joe.

I bet one day you won't be saying that. You will be saying "I'm glad I was a college student"

Take your time. You can eat an elephant one bite at a time.

My renny is the good year, and yes i've got 117k on it and still not ball joint problems (although that is probably forseeable in the future) and it's lifted... yes it's a 03 with factory skids still on it, the only one that even has a lick is the gas tank skid... and its not too bad... (haven't had much time to wheel since i got it) but you want a light bar, i sell mine lights included for 450??? that's a deal right?? :jester:

I got an 05 renegade and have full under body skids from front to gas been that way since I bought it in 06

I can, since the renegade is just an aesthetic package.

From '02 to '04 the Renegade package was in fact an off road package complete with full skids, roof lights, and rock rails, in '05 it became an appearance package, all had the bumper mounted fog's, and rock rails, only some had the skids and roof lights, the one's that didn't you had to order the skids from the dealer as a dealer installed option....or put them on yourself...

The part I don't understand is why they changed it from an off road package on earlier KJ's with the curved hood, to an appearance package on the later models with the flat hood....???

I'll say the only reason I bought the Renegade over the Limited was the hood.
It's got rails but no skids, however at 135,000 I've never had the need for either.
I have utilized the heavy duty cooling/tow package though.
I do however love watching you guys tear it up on YouTube

Because jeep realized that they could make plastic flares look macho and tough but adding bolt looking things to them, and that by doing do people would want to buy them.

Kinda in the same logic that many people want a "RUBICON" because the sticker on the side is so cool.(not me, but it's rather frustrating the number of people that want one because of that)

Plus its cheaper just to throw some different colors on it, give it a cool name, and sell an aesthetics package for more money.

Also don't get me wrong, I like the aesthetics of the flat 05+ Rene hood, looks much "jeepyer," but thats were my interest in the aesthetics package ends.
