Been waiting to drive a CRD but have driven the 04 3.7L Renegade, moving down from a Ram 2500QCSB with 400hp 860tq Cummins.

Drove one today and the sales guy used to hunt with my Grandfather, knows my Mom, Uncle and everybody I can think of family wise. But never knew him before last weekend. Great no BS guy about the whole sale process, spent 4 of the 5 hours BS with the guy and an hour inside on papers. Good guy....was really looking for an open steep public bank and he said to hit the State Pit by the dealership! Ok...he had never been off road before and it was great!!!

He said go up that hill if you would like. I jumped out to walk it first and saw it was just peachy compared to what I have seen the Liberty in stock form do in pictures here, one large rock at the crest but not jetting out. I told him we would go down it first, first scotchbroom "primer" scratch in the plastic fender. Went down it very stable and slight side shift 1/2 way down....easy. He shifted his seat and mentioned how tense he was and the "OS" bars were being used.....by that time I had spun around and asked if he wanted to take it up the hill mimself?

"No you go ahead...I will hold on".....ok in 4LOW and completly stock with Goodyear pavement tires....walked righ up the 12' high bank....then the big rock at the top, caught the forward rear 4 link bar on the rock!!!! He pooed a little as I just let off to idle and started steering back and forth feeling for traction. By now the smoke off the LR tire is coming in the window because it is on the rock face and spinning (at idle but still smoking the tire).

No forward turn traction so I went into reverse and turned for traction, finally caught some back up and got off the rock, then forward and slid off the rock towards the drivers (downhill) but it walked right out and the guy nearrly died talking about how he thought we would have to walk back and get help. Needless to say he says "We didn't go here".....I said no worries if you can get me financially into this rig I will take it home right now.

I love it because it took about 20 minutes for it to kick in WTF we just did in a completly stock Jeep Liberty Diesel.....but he came back out and said Now I see why you are leaving the 4.5" Fabtech and 35" Toyo M/T's and a 400HP diesel!!!!! I want one of those!!!!

Needless to say it was too late in the day to look at my financing but I am wondering if their asking proce is reasonable. The Jeep is a 2006 Limited dark blue monochromatic, leather, with 42700 miles. I am aware that zip code has an effect on the value but they are I am looking at financing around $19k once I put $1500 down and they pay off my Dodge that I am upside down in......smart but trying to remedy it with this downgrade in size. They are below KBB but about $2k jhigher than NADA....but I know beggers can't be choosers with an upside down trade in but it seems signifigantly higher than I recall seeing them go for?

Any help or advise/reference would be great.

Like you said the zip code seems to make a difference. In California for an 06 Limited with that mileage IMHO the price would be fine. There are sport models selling for a good bit less around the country. An included warranty would make it more interesting, might get that if it is a dealer.

Be sure to ask if there's a extended warranty that can be transfered to you for a fee :jester: If there is it's transferable to the second owner only.
It was available in several levels and in different miles/months versions. I got the Gold for 7 years/70k miles and it has paid for it's self with my last visit and I've got 2 years 8 months or 32k miles left.
The 06's came with a bumper to bumper 3/36 warranty.
Since it has leather it sounds well equipted :SOMBRERO:

I love it and am trying to convine a buddy that has a 500hp Dogde to drive it...he used to be a 4 wheeler and now always has a huge canopy.....but honestly with the aftermarket options available this is a very capable platform both on and off road and feel no downgrade from my current rig!!!

Thanks so very much for this golden nugget of a forum!!

A week ago I picked up an '05 CRD Sport with 47k for $15900 after working them a few grand on my trade-in ('04 WJ). Was more than I was planning on spending, and at the high end of blue book, but is in nice shape. Plus it's the same bright silver metallic paint that was on my trade-in.

Being the second owner, I was able to transfer the original 7/70 powertrain warranty from jeep for $150 fee, which I got the dealer to include anyhow. Is it a Jeep dealer? They offer extended Added Care and Added Care Plus warranties also, depending on whether the particular vehicle qualifies. Not sure how they make that decision but the cost varies as well. For $2400 (aka another year of payments), I tacked on the Added Care, which covers 650+ parts for 5yr/70k miles from the day of purchase, with a $200 deductible, with service performed at any jeep dealer. The best part is that it can be transferred to another owner if I sell the jeep, or canceled for a small ($50-75) fee. Up to 60 days, the full value is returned, after which they prorate the return based on miles or time. Check it out if you think it's worth it, looks like they're also offered through the jeep website too.

hope it works out for ya.

Yeah it's kind of weird to think about it like this... But the CRD in bone stock form is making the same torque as the 4.7L V8 Dodge used in Jeeps and Ram pickups. With the GDE tune and the GDE turbo, the CRD is making the same torque as the current 5.7L HEMI V8 in the Dodge Rams. And this is with 4 cylinders...and 75% better fuel economy.

We really do have sleepers under the hood. People scoff and laugh. I've even heard "it takes a special kind of man to drive a Liberty". But the truth is, these Jeeps are STRONG and are built much more heavy duty than anything else in it's class. We have real transfer cases, HD transmissions, fairly stout rear axles, and and industrial diesel. For it's size...it's pretty much a mule.

Know this is old post but, is the TC used in the 5.7 Hemi Dakotas the same as the new spec'd out Euros?

Don't know. But the gasolne engines do not have the low end thump thump our 4 cylinder tractor engines have. Therefore they wouldn't benefit from stiffer springs.
