SWR off the spare will always be a bit off, around 1.4-1.5

my flex4 is on the roof, never had any problems with it and the SWR is dead on purty even as beat to pieces as it is

unless youre going to run a linear there's no way you'll over power the flex-4, only issues I've had with the flex is that it's a very high gain antenna in comparison to K40's and what not and the quality of the tuneability of the radio gain/rx wise will play a big roll in how well the antenna works for you - with the high gain you may end up chasing alot of RFI especially mounted at the spare. I moved mine to the roof, away from the spare, because I couldn't get the fuel pump noise out of it with it mounted on the rear.

additionally, for use on the rear I think I'd go with a firestick 4 on a HD spring, the flex 4's have alot of flex, in my opinion, too much flex to mount on the rear without it slapping the vehicle upon rebounds

x2 on the firestick 4 on a spring. I've gotten very good performance.
