Harbor Freight online sells one that reads the CRD codes.

Cen-Tech item # 94169.

The only cheap one I have found that works on ALL KJ CRDs is an Innova 3030 (engine codes ONLY).

My model must have been replaced by one of those three.

I think it was around $60 when I bought it.

Does a Cen Tech website exist that can give you information?

Here's a new competitor of the ScanGaugeII that's currently available for $60.

Looking at their site says it's "compatable with most diesels"

We all know the ScanguageII will cause wild things to happen with the transmission if you try driving with it connected after a short while. It's a CRD data bus thing the way Chrysler kludged things together, not a scanguage thing. It would be a neat thing for us non evic owners to have IF it worked reliably. I looked for a place to ask a question but did not find one??

Mind if I piggyback this post?

I'd like to know the best scan tool under a Bill for the gasser KJ (04' for me)? One thing it'd have to have is the ability to clear codes. (As I have a harassing evap issue that I still can't get around to actually repairing.)

Just about any scantool should work to clear the codes on your gasser  It's the CRD's that have a nessed up data bus :furious:

What do the dealers ussually use? And can't you picked up a used one off of ebay. That is how i got mine for my Seadoos which will only accept a seadoo style scanner and only sold to dealers. I understand that what the dealer uses is probably atleast a few hundred if not thousand dollars but what about a lower model?

That stinks. I have a SGII and was going to run it on the CRD before and after the GDE tune. I wonder if the Interceptor Scan gage will work on the CRD?

Dealers use a DRBiii and/or StarScan. I think you need the latter. And picking one up cheap on ebay is no going to happen.
Here's a used one for $2,695 :dizzy:

...and also the exceptions list doesn't show our CRD http://ultra-gauge.com/ultragauge/suppo ... tions.html Not that that means much.

What I don't get is that OBDII is mandated and there must be at least a minimum requirement to be able to read DTC's and sensor information. If the bus is hanging when being accessed by devices that adhere to correct protocol I don't understand how it can claim to be compliant. This doesn't even start to address the transmission problems. Why isn't the EPA challenging Chrysler to fix this defect?

Maybe we should all file a report with the NTSB about violent downshifting when accessing the ECU through OBDII using third party tools.

This seems to be a great idea. I wonder if Chrysler has the ability to fix the kludged data bus?
