I'll take the recommendation of Eaton corporation (which makes Dana axles), which will extend the warranty on my semi diffs to 750,000 miles from 500,000 miles when synthetics are used. Likewise, the Technology and Maintenance Council, which has more real world experience than all of us put together, has shown that synthetic gear lubes are recommended in virtually all situations.
Eaton does not make or have anything to do with Dana/Spicer,also Eaton does not 100% recommend synthetic gear oils for every product they make.
Really! see
http://www.roadranger.com/Roadranger/index.htmIf you look at that page, you will see Eaton and Dana emblems there. Also, if you do a google on "Eaton Dana" you will get to the same site. Also, you will have to take up the 100% synthetic issue with my Eaton 13 spd transmission owner and lube manuals. Have them both in PDF here on my laptop if you want to have copies. Even on the website, they show that they will extend the standard warranty on transmissions and rear ends from 500,000 to 750,000 miles if SYNTHETICS are used. This is why I use synthetics in my transmission and diffs. So I can take advantage of the 750,000 mile warranty.
Time to catch up on that reading you have been meaning to do.
I also stated that the Technology and Maintenance Council, which publishes the standard maintenance practices observed by major OEMs in North America, has shown that synthetic gear lubricants are a recommended practice. Eaton (DANA) recognizes TMC recommended practices in their literature.
