I'm 6'9" and the seats are definitely too high, but it's the only CRD Jeep on the market and that's why I got it. If I could just get the seat farther back AND down by an inch I'd be happy...

Interestingly, the passenger seat is WAY higher than the driver seat.

I'm so uncomfortable in mine that I'm really toying with the idea of putting spacers under the front part of the seat brackets to raise the front of the seat up a little. If the backs of my legs could at least rest on the seat cushion that would help a little in this thing...

There seem to be two threads here:

1) my first comment was that the leather, 6-way adjust premium seats in my Limited sit too high. I would actually like to lower them by an inch, which *might* be enough.

2) some people seem to be saying that theirs are too low. These seem to be coming from Sport owners, I think.

So my question is, what are the differences? Are the brackets different? If so, swapping brackets might help one of us. Any Sport owners without the premium seats in the Portland area that would let me have a glance at the seat brackets in their rig?

I say do it man! I was playing with my seat the other day and I put the whole thing "down" and I felt like I was about to fall forward out of the dang thing again. The only thing that kept me from falling forward was the fact that there was no more room in the footwell. Ha!

I really can't see a couple spacers in front putting you out of safe positioning any more than lifting the front on my power adjust seats does. The only difference would be potentially compromising the shear strength of the bolts holding the front down. You could remove this potential failure point by replacing with better bolts though.

If I didn't have the power seats, I would have already done...something. That would drive me crazy! Either lift the front or I'd have some thigh bolsters made or fabbed. I can't even imagine how bad that position must hurt after a few miles on the road. It's probably about 7/8 of your body weight poised on one...err, two points of your body. Not good posture for 6'+ guys.

JeepJeepster - I found that little manual slot! Woohoo! I completely lost track of this thread and didn't even see you offer to shoot picts. Thanks man.

Well I looked at the track system on my Jeep and it appears very simple. I think I can just buy some longer bolts and washers and lift the front part of the seat an inch or so....effectively tilting it back some. I might try that after work today. If it works it should make things much more comfy for us tall guys with manual adjusting seats.

Note to self: Next time get factory power seats. :?

I think the seats sit a little too high also. I was able to re-drill some holes where the lower seat cusions mounts into the rail and some other stuff with pushing the lower seat cusion further foward. Overall it feels more comfortable and it is a little lower than before.

I also looked at drilling out the rivets that hold the rails to the brackets and moving that an inch lower or so. Overall it wasn't that hard to make the adjustments I made and won't be too diffcult to lower it a bit further either. Just need a good set of cobalt bits and a nice drill.

Well I unbolted the two main bolts holding the seat to the frame and put 1/2" worth of washers in both sides. Effectively lifting the front of the seat 1/2" and keeping the rear the same. It is definitely more comfortable this way. However I may have lifted it just a tad too far for my taste. So I might take out one washer or two on each side and leave 3/8" or a little less of lift there. It's going to work out great though and took me about 5 minutes to do.[/img]

I'm 6'2" and actually like the seats the way they are. They do seem a bit high but after riding around in a Dodge Neon for several years I'm not complaining one bit.

Same here, 6'2", I like the seat's position (KJ w/Limited trim)

I rented a Neon for a while Norseman, and I gotta agree with you. Fun little car to sling around a racetrack, but they should all have Sparco buckets in them.

Oh, and welcome to the forum!

Thanks for the welcome. Nice looking KJ you've got there. I had been kicking around the idea of the CRD when I got the sport. It looks like you got it in the same color too. Other than the seats, how do you like the CRD? We may have to meet up sometime.

Yeah after I put the 1/2" spacers under the front of the seat...it does sit a tad too high now. I'm thinking 1/4" would be perfect. I'll take out a couple of the washers today and see how I like that instead.

It definitely helps to have my legs resting on the seat cushion now. I just went a tad too far. :)

Better drop it a bit LibertyCRD. Can't have the airbag hitting your knees first if it deploys!  Let us know what height ends up being perfect for you and post some picts if you can.

Norseman - Don't judge my KJ by my avatar image. I'm an artist and that's...err...what I WANT my KJ to look like. It doesn't look like that...yet. ;-)

A bunch of us from Richmond, VA Beach, and NC are doing a group-buy on CRS rockrails. The install trip to Charlotte is on April 1st, but they need downpayments like...now. It would be a good opp to meet some local LOST people. Check out the Carolina LOST section and read the threads beginning with CRS. I, unfortunately, won't be making that trip (helping my brother move in Raleigh), but I'm buying the rails.

I'm thinking about doing a southern VA rally some time soon.

Also check out the Mid-Atlantic LOST section. We're right on the edge of the two group's areas, so most of us belong to both Carolina LOST and Mid-Atlantic LOST.

I love the Dark Khaki. It wasn't the color I set out to buy. I really didn't plan on buying the only 05 KJ color that you get charged extra for. But I got the GREAT deal on, so I got it. And I LOVE it!

I have the leather Limited heated seats with 87-million-way power adjustment. I don't really have a problem with the seats, except when I put the seat in "full down" position, which mimics the regular KJ seats. I just tilt the front up and scooch the rear down as far as it will go and I'm okay with the position. I'll show you what I mean when we meet. If you have the regular seats and don't like them, I'd suggest copying LibertyCRD's setup. Get some thigh bolster before you have to go to a chiropractor.

I'm about 5'8", and find the seats a tad high, but not too bad. I'd be a bit more comfy if the front of the seat were about 1/4" shorter. I also find that the sunvisor comes down too far to be used.

Try turning the rear view mirror upside down...gives a bit more forward vision.

I meant those pics you had posted in the KJ Pictures area (with the kayak, bike, etc). I've been lurking a bit before I signed in. I'll check out the CRS rails stuff but I'm probably leaning towards getting some crossbars and a basket first. It's hard enough to get the CFO (wife) to sign off on that.

I've been following this thread for a while now and I must say I do not have a problem with the seats. I'm 5'11"-6' and keep it to where my knees just barely touch the dash so when I go around curves I can hold myself in the seat. Yes, we have some crazy roads in Ky.

I guess it all depends on the way our bodies are built. Some people may have longer legs that do not get enough support from the seats, then some of us are all upper body with little short legs and the seats seem to high and we cant see out. I guess I'm right in the middle.

Edit: Gosh the site is slow today! I cant stand this.

I'm 5'6'' and I dont have the problem. It is actually the perfect seating position for someone my height. Guess being short does have some advantages.

Quite obviously they designed the seats for someone between 5'3" and 5'6"....all of us seem to be happy with the seats. They are comfy to me. The only problem I have is on really long trips, my butt falls asleep. But it did in both of my Neons and my too, so there ya go.

I'm 5'11" and I like the way the seats sit. The only thing that bugs me is the keys rubbing my knee when I'm wearing shorts. It is really aggravating to me. Other than that, I'm impressed at how high it feels like your sitting for such as small vehicle.
