GreenDieselEngineering,

Thanks I mentioned it to the tech. They are in the process of replacing the whole engine harness. Hopefully they will fix the issue, and I will have a whole bunch of new electrical junk in the Jeep. Guess I'll just keep driving the crap out of the rental they gave me while I wait.

Good luck Kegan. I bought my Jeep and within three days it started shifting funny, threw a CEL and needed a 3k tranny rebuild. Amazing part was that the dealership actually offered and honored their warranty on it. I have been consistently amazed at some of the things I have been told by mechanics:

1) Need a special factory tool to change the fuel filter. (Tuffy's)
2) There is no transmission temperature sensor. (Greenway Jeep)
3) That CEL isn't in my service book. (Greenway Jeep)

Get used to it, it's part of the charm of the orphan sensored word :)

I am in Orlando as well, Winter Park, where are you?

Gerge,

I'm in the Conway area. Now after replacing the engine harness its not starting at all. They are working with Chrysler tech support to get it going. Wonder if I'll ever get this thing. Almost feel this venture is doomed from the start.

FWIW: I visited the Jeep dealer on Sand Lake and John Young to see if they could pull the service history on the CRD I purchased. The service manager seemed knowledgable about the Jeep. Don't know about the technicians though. Let us know how you get by.

They are still working on it. Carmax called me today, they said the dealership wants to put a "Body Control Module" in the vehicle??? Not exactly sure what this it. However, I found a gas KJ 4x4 that has all the toys I want. Its being shipped in from another state, should be here next week. So, I may be joining the gassers if this doesn't get fixed. Even if they do fix it, I feel a little un-easy about this one.

The BCM is the same as the TIPM. It is called 'BCM' on KJ and newer Jeeps call it a TIPM. We had a memory lapse earlier.

Personally I would not consider the gasser, problems happen but it will get fixed and you have many trouble free miles with a great vehicle that you didnt have to pay to repair. I would bargain for a full coverage extended warranty with the down time they have caused and run away with it.

Have you bought the jeep already, or are you able to wait to see how it turns out? I say let em have at it. If they say all is good go check it out. In the meantime don't buy a gasser. You were looking for a diesel for a reason, just keep looking. I have never driven a gas version, but I can't imagine you would derive the same utils of satisfaction.

Gerge,

I've already bought the CRD, but they are willing to switch cars out with me if I feel uncomfortable with the purchase. I would much rather have the CRD, I'm just a little on the fence about it, because its already given me so much trouble and I have an angry wife that doesn't want the CRD anymore.. I'm gonna test drive the gasser since they are shipping it in and see which one I like better.

I bought mine from Carmax also back in 2007. The first thing they did when prepping it for me was fill it full of GASOLINE!! :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: Luckily it was caught before they tried to start it, only because of a conversation the sales guy and me were having at the time, and he took off running to catch them (too late...it was full of it). We took another vehicle home while they were draining the tank, and picked it up the next day. :furious: :furious:

I just scanned over the previous posts, may have missed if they replaced the actual key transponder antenna in the ignition area. I was a electronic access security tech (locksmith with a multimeter...) and among other electronic security, specialized in vehicle electronic access systems. I found that the mopar line if vehicles use a antenna consisting of about a dozen or so turns of very fine wire on a round former around the ignition switch, under the column shroud. These are quite prone to full and intermittent failure due to the wire in the "antenna" being extremely small in gauge, not much thicker than hair. I saw in one of the posts that a code was thrown relating to failed transponder in the key. I have actually worked on and fixed about two dozen vehicles in the last decade that dealerships called me into, after looseing full heads of hair on them! Most notably, mopar versions.

The thin wire antenna is electrically "welded" to the circuit board traces on the transponder circuit board that feeds the encrypted data to the ecu, or in the case of our Libbys, the bcm. The cheap welds fracture and the resulting chaos can be permanent or even worse, intermittent. Solution is to VERY CAREFULLY apply just enough heat to the contacts to solder (silver solder is the best) the uber thin wires back to the circuit board.

Made a lot of money off those repairs, but I sold the business and am happy to share now!

It took me a year to find a mechanic who knew diesels and was not afraid to get into my CRD. I have given him a copy of the service manual, notes from the forum for various issues we have discussed. Not sure that problems would be fixed if you guys were not sharing this kind of information and Ron was open to the input.

Best of luck. Once it is fixed, you will love it....I ran into coding issues on the way home. What a pain...but in the end, I really like my Libby....

PS....
I missed the post where you traded it for a gas model.....it would be interesting to hear what they decided to do with the vehicle....hope they fix it before the next newbie buys it...
