unfortunately

if you can give me an idea of how much the piston is protruding, via rough measurement or photo we can be sure

did someone hit the brakes inside the vehicle with the calipers removed or something? if so are both sides exhibiting this behavior?

not good my brother, can't do that, many calipers don't have a stop seat and will overextend and/or extend too far and encounter a rusted portion and lock up with quite a few psi of hydrolic pressure it doesn't take much to jam metal and metal together in a position that a hammer and a torch would have trouble getting apart

my advice, take the reservoir cap back off, check all of the calipers for movement

if all 4 are stuck, let me know and we'll try something else but the remaining situation I find rather unlikely

if the rears weren't off, or reinstalled with no issue ignore those and check the other front caliper if it isn't on yet

the other side barely moves... as in i think that the pads are rubbing against the rotor

if the pads are fairly new they're going to rub a little but if the caliper reinstalled then it may be fine

but I feel i should repeat myself on the calipers, if you replace one side you should replace the other

however, the other caliper, the one with the piston sticking out about two inches, it sounds like the piston is dislocated/jammed out, and there's no viable way to put it back

so, only last check is to check residual pressure, put your clamp on it, put reasonable tension on it, and slightly open the caliper bleeder screw, you don't have to turn it far, if the fluid hits the opposite side of the vehicle and the piston moves you found the issue

if it drips a drop or two and you apply some more tension to the c-clamp and it still doesn't move then retighten the bleeder screw and remove the clamp and acquire a pair of calipers as the piston is absolutly over extended

okay so i did the c-clamp and bleed test... they didn't move at all.
So i guess they are seized.
Fortunately I have a bike and can ride it over to the auto store and I guess that they can help me through the switching out of calipers?

so i just realized that I am an idiot and didn't even need to take the caliper off of the rotor to do this install. that Is where my problem was!

switching out the calipers isn't a big deal really, the bleed is the crucial part as air will get into the line during R&R

get a pair of calipers, hell get some caliper paint if you want :P may as well do something flashy like bright yellow :P

and a large bottle of DOT3 brake fluid ~ quartish size

you'll need to gravity bleed the brake system when you're done with the install

driver rear, pass rear, driver front then pass front will be the order

Nah, ya didn't have to , just makes it easier to maneuver the assembly

hittin the brake with the caliper off was the killer, but we're all allowed one ;) **** happens

well i guess since I have 107k on here and have only changed the pads once, I don't feel that bad.
So will all the fluid need to be drained out, meaning that 1 quart will take care of my refill?

if you want to do a mostly full brake fluid flush get 2 quarts of dot3, same method

1 qt of dot3 should be more than enough to gravity bleed the air out of it

youll take the master cyl reservoir cap off, make sure it's full, go to the caliper in the order i listed earlier (driver rear, pass rear, driver front then pass front will be the order)

open the bleeder screw and let it drain till the fluid looks clean and there are no bubbles, close the bleeder refill the reservoir

take your time and go slow, don't let the reservoir go too empty, once the first location runs clean and no bubbles move to the next until you have done all 4

usually if i have a moderate amount of fluid left, i start over and give it a final quick bleed, top it off and put the cap back on

the gravity bleed is an excellent bleed method, and doesn't require any pedal pumping

it does however take some time to perform

No they just shove back in, problem is you must have shoved it out past the seal when you pushed on the brake pedal. If you have tried pushing it back in then you have more than likely ruined the seal needing to replace or rebuild the caliper.
For "most" its easier to replace. You've been through enough already

and even though I am not on the ground yet... I have pretty bad contact between the uca and coil over... hopefully it will go away when I am on the ground finally?

Of course you'll have some contact until you get the weight on it and get an alignment.
The alignment will help a lot.

It will take days to gravity bleed newer brake systems after caliper replacement and you will never get all the air out of the system as air wants to rise and will even in a hydrulaic system if opened,if you have ABS your SOL for gravity bleeding. You need to pressure bleed it or the old fashion way(one person pumps 3 times and holds and the 2nd person opens the bleeder,do until all air is out).
