I think turbosocks is running that size tire with a daystar 2". This is the budget lift i've heard the least amount of complaints on, or no complaints. Installation will be a little more labor intensive than an ott like rusty's because you have to disassemble the strut w a spring compressor. I am going to try this lift myself.

Ok I might catch some flack here because a lot of people advise against it. If you're set on getting a budget boost, I would buy a Rock Krawler lift. When it comes in take the hardware to a hardware store for comparison and get 10.9 or grade 8 hardware that matches what the kit came with. Get something that will not rust and is NOT 8.8 or grade 5. Be sure to replace the rear shocks with some that are extended in length for the extra height. The install for the RK lift is a breeze and is the kit I bought when I was on a budget. :ROTFL:

but if it is a 3.5 am i not going to have the contact issues with the upper contol arms?
what did he hate about the daystar lift?
its not to hard to get the fork out why is there not a company that just builds 2in longer forks, or a couple of sizes it would be way to easy seems like the best way to do a lift on these

you dont get 3.5" out of the Rock Krawler. i would say 2"-2.5" but forgot to measure before and after on mine. there was minor contact going too fast over speed bumps and such on mine, it might not do it but if it does aftermarket uca's would remedy the problem.

he hates the ride of his blown suspension from having the daystar spacers.

he means a stiffer ride...bad ride quality after compressing the front since the spacer goes inside the strut assembly

have you gotten in touch with Rusty's to see if we can return this POS. I am kinda in the same boat and if i can return it may order the RK lift

Ya it rides like a tank. Ive gotten used to it, but would love to have the ride comfort of a full spring lift.

good to know it already rides like a tank but that shock extenshion relief how deep is it? im wondering if you can trim the rubber to decrese the stiffness of the spring

i was running a 255/70/16 tire for about a week before I installed my daystar kit.. I only had minor rubbing on compression while turning (street driving) couldn't flex at all on dirt roads going up inclines

I wouldn't recommend driving around on that size tire without a lift for to long though, but its do-able.. I have pics of mine without the lift if you want to see.

I just installed the Daystar kit last weekend, and so far I really like it.. The ride is pretty darn close to stock, sometimes I forgot that its lifted. I get the UCA/spring contact, but only has happened maybe 3 times or so in a week when going fast over a speed bump.. otherwise, nothing.. There is no way I would spend the 400$ on the upgraded UCAs though unless I decide on a 'real' lift sometime in the future.

I was going to opt for the Rock krawler kit, but figured i'd save my pennies to start. If I want something better in the future, I'll sell the daystar and upgrade, won't be out much $$, since nothing in the daystar kit can wear out.

the top hats in the daystar recess the mounting point for the strut, so there won't be much more strain on the actual function of the strut as far as I can tell. You add a ~2" spacer, but the mounting point is now 'sunk in' the top hat instead of above/same height.

The springs are obviously a bit stiffer in the front, but not very noticable by me anyway. I didn't buy the Jeep to ride like a Cadillac.

I am very satisfied with the Daystar lift so far and will end up replacing the rear shocks in the future with longer ones, but for the time being, the stockers will do.

so i got one of the rims and tires to check the for clearance and they clear, not with much room. so the next question this pinch weld mod is it behind the tire behind the inner tire well, and is it just folding it over?

If its not actually rubbing I would just leave it, if it ever actually does then go ahead. Tthe KKs pinch welds are pretty tough and I put 4 relief cuts in it to make it easier to bend over, couldn't get it to budge without. Paint over it and seal it up afterward so it will not rust.

In towards the center of the Jeep. I think it would be entirely too much work to do it any other way.

did you re mold the inner fenders to stop the rub or did you remove them. i see what you ment by how hard it is to move it there is like 1/2 of steel all to gether. i had to cut the seem back some to get the fender to sit where i needed it to no rub when sitting there stationary but when it is flexing there is a little rub but not to tight to tear any thing.

Actually I haven't reinstalled the liner yet, plan on doing it Sunday night cause I just got the fenderwells cleaned up and such. They've been out for months now and I've been to lazy or busy.
Get to install my driveshaft and remove an inch of bump stop also.
